Description Staring down the barrel of the Shadow's gun.

**************************************
First off, I blame this on YOU ~aurora-firestorm for this. With many thanks to your wonderful words of encouragement and helpful hints and sharp eye for detail, you gave me the ideas I needed and inspiration as well, to complete this specific piece.

Secondly, let me know if this is again, too dark. I think it should be alright, but just in case, I can lighten this up some if you can't see the slight browns used for his skin, and the faint highlights in his clothing.

Colored completely using GIMP (many thanks to ~C4bl3Fl4m3 for introducing me to this wonderful program). This is the first time I have ever spent this much time on a piece in the digital media, and the first time I have done anything to this quality using GIMP. I am extrememly pleased, in light of a few minor details and errors that I don't feel the need to point out, because I do feel so proud of myself for actually finishing this (ego much?). The original image is MASSIVE, so I have made it into an 800x616 for the people who have smaller resolutions.

My black mouse actually turned my hand a slightly darker shade tonight as I finally got this finished.

Excellent piece! You really captured the hypnotic feel of The Shadow's eyes. One of the better Shadow pieces I've seen on dA

Thank you very much! I'm very flattered to hear you say that. If you're looking for more Shadow art (some done by true masters) check out my Shadow folder in my Favorites. There is a small following on DA, but they are definitely out there!

Will do. Glad to see such a cool character has a presence yet, I'm working on some stuff and I'll upload it as soon as I finish it.

Oh, and for your question on your sig? The Shadow would make quick work of Batman. The Shadow in his early radio days as well as pulps isn't bound to the same "Never take a life" code as Batman is. I think that killer instinct would be the advantage, not even mentioning the ability to cloud his mind.

Thanks for writing back to me!

Cheers

~ T

Awesome, I'll keep a look out for it!

He he, awesome! I'm glad to see someone agrees with my stance on the Shadow's prowess. He definitely has a large advantage over Batman, there's no question about it.

I love the radio shows, but I personally favor the pulps myself. I've set out to read them all, and so far I'm up to about 50 Shadow novels!

I tend to enjoy the pulps as well. They fleshed out a lot more of the mythos than the radio show did, although there's no denying the impact of Orson Welles, Frank Readick, and the others made. Did you ever hear about the urban legend surrounding Walt Gibson as he wrote the Shadow?

Since he was putting out such an awesome amount of work (roughly 2 novels a month) they said that the walls of his house "absorbed" some of the mental, emotional, and physical energy he was using to keep that pace. What happened was that when visitors came to see him, some swear they would see odd flitting shadowy shapes move across the walls - as if the structure of the place was playing back what he wrote!

Just an urban legend, but an interesting one I thought.

Oh certainly! The Radio show itself had so much of an impact it's impossible to deny!

I've heard that myth before and it's very neat. Who knows, maybe what remains of Gibson in the household is playing tricks with those who visit. I wouldn't put it past him!
