Description
Here's the completed Tactical Squad for the Royal Venom Chapter. There's only a couple things I've been meaning to touch up before I clear coat them.
All that's left after that is to base them, and I picked up some really nice resin bases from [link] [link]
Once those are painted up, they'll be all set for display.

Very nice paintjob. The accentuation is well done. I'm jealous!

thanks Akuma
Now all I have to do is learn to weather as good as you and I'll be all set
Speaking of which. I'm doing a land raider and dreadnought next, got any tips?

I paint a thin boltgun metal line along all edges that would wear down when the vehicles would roll over, for instance. You have to quiver a bit so it looks ragged. The boarding ramps of the Land Raider may have been in use many times so the tips are probably worn down. Since you have this ashen-like groud on your marines' bases, the track sets on the Land Raider probably wouldn't be dirty.
OR you could just paint your vehicles without wearing effects. Surely, there must be a space marine chapter which can afford maintenance. Seriously, all those marines walk around in mobile temples of golden ornaments and their tanks look like shit...techmarines must be some lazy fellas!

Thanks mate, I'm definetly going to use your tips. And I think I'll give it a slight grey dusting around the tracks (very light) to represent the dusted concrete rubble they've been rolling through.
Of course, I'll post pics

Oh, and put in some gaps when painting the wear lines. They look best if they resemble some kind of twisted morse code

reallyreallyreallyreally good . . . I still use my four-year old spray-to-play necrons [hey! they've been in tombs for 60million years, whaddya expect? clean armor?] and one slightly more carefully sprayed necron lord; did, yet, make a 4x6foot bombed city terrain on plywood as the necron city. . . and promptly got my a&* handed to me by a squad of terminators; great work

gotta watch out for those termies.
even after a nap for 60million years, they'll kick your ass while you're 1/2 asleep

the sergeant's face is really good, and so are the power armours. maybe you could add a bit more light to the edges to make them shine. A darker and matt wash on the less illuminated parts of the gold would make it more contrasted and detailed too. This is a really nice squad, keep up the good work!

Thanks Kdar
I was considering doing a 50/50 gold/mithril highlight, if that's what you were referring to for the edges. I have such an issue doing gold though, it never seems to come out right. I'll definately be doing a wash though for the darker areas, that'll look good.
The entire thing will get a matte coat when I'm finished. so that'll take the shine out of the recesses.
Thanks again

yeah, they'll be definitively cool. About the light points, on the gold can make a good touch for sure, I was writing about the purple armour too, a bit of even lighter colour would make the various plates more definied in their shapes.
Ah, and for your future miniatures (and if you want to spend a few more time hehe) maybe using a medium grey to make a base for the white parts would make the final colour less "heavy"... well, I thought you worked using only the white, so I can be wrong about that.
bye!

yeah, I hate white basing... I base everything in a mid-gray primer before I even start painting. Including the white areas. Problem is I had a crappy bottle of white, which I replaced 1/2 way through. You can tell because some of the arrows on the pads are chunky on some models, but fine and smooth on others.
(Mental Note: NEVER buy Vallejo white again. P3 white is MUCH smoother/better.)
As far as highlighting the plates, it's not a bad idea, and I'm glad you bring it up. But the last couple times I highlighted past this point (and I do enjoy a more subtle highlight) it came out REALLY light. Like damn near pink.
Perhaps a very very very THIN bright highlight would be ok.
