Description
how dare deviantart change things thats horrible !!!!if you excuse me im gonna increase my commission prices because i need money and change my avatar again
Whole deviantart is about this and its just so stupid
oh no they changed the icons , oh noo now everything is different forever
and changing the prices is something totaly normal for a site like this , im surprised they didnt do it before
yeah they should have said something about it before changing it so suddenly but then again , everyone would react the same anyway
if you dont like core membership then don't buy it simple as that
just because you can't afford it doesnt mean its bad , you don't see me being mad at Apple for making laptops out of my price range
but then again , everyone can have their own opinion i quess

Exactly! If they kept the price like it was, they probably wouldnt be making much profit. I just dont like how everyone is freaking out. X3

I know. it's really not that much money. anyone who thinks it's way too much needs to ask themselves why they were buying an online membership in the first place because the main argument I hear is "I can't afford it now"

I am okay with it, I only don't like the core thingy xP
Also, They have raised the prizes by a lot and not just bit by bit

break down the yearly payment and it's $4,17 a month which is pretty affordable
before it was $5 a month and about $30 per year. they discounted it more than what they could handle. really not that bad

FredsonV In reply to bigfluffycow [2015-08-05 17:52:55 +0000 UTC]
Well first it was indeed like $30 a year and now $50
The price has almost doubled

bigfluffycow In reply to FredsonV [2015-08-05 17:55:49 +0000 UTC]
yes but that was at a discounted price. dA cant pay bills like that. $50 is perfectly reasonable. if something worth $10 was sold at $6, then the price was raised to its original value because the company couldnt keep up, everyone loses it and that's pretty much what's happening

it's just the fact that people who don't have the funds cant afford it now, its nice to have it and now i cant even afford it ://
idgaf about the icon change it was mostly the dramatic increase in money and no explanation. I completely understand why they did it now but still it was sudden.

dramatic increase? it's $4,17 a month, you just have to pay all at once per year
if anything dA discounted more than what they could handle. the current price is pretty reasonable

It may not be dramatic to you, and rich (or) prissy families out there but some of us have conditions they need to handle and 5 dollars can save them a whole lot more per month. Especially when they could afford it previously but now can't

but do you really need the membership? people are overreacting. sure it would be nice to have extra features but it's not even necessary. why can't people get that fact?

MoonSpaghetti In reply to TriBecki [2015-08-05 18:10:52 +0000 UTC]
Some people like to hide the fact they aren't very poor and having a beautiful page and a funky personality can cover that up easily, a lot of people actually feel that if they do that they could gain more followers as well.

that's not what i'm talking about. what i'm trying to say is that people don't need the Core membership, it's just an extension. if you don't like the price or if you can't afford it, don't buy it! you're still allowed to stay on dA if you don't buy the extra.
wouldn't it be so impractical if someone went into an Apple store and yelled at the person behind the counter if they couldn't buy Apple's computers? it's the exact same scenario here. start acting mature, people. it's not the end of the world.

And what I'm trying to say is that people used to afford it previously and now can't, I wouldn't yell at the staff because I'm not rude and especially don't swear. Some people just like it, it's almost like having your favourite teddy bear taken away - oh god then I would cry because the sentimental value to mine is huge xD But yeah, if I were to get the core membership (in the first place I wouldn't) I'd rather have it go to the 50% of staff fired instead of the leftovers since those staff need it right now. And sorry if this felt off topic I'm losing track of what we were talking about in the first place and need to sleep

well, i used to have PM before it ran out in April, so personally i know what it's like to have it. and i'm not purposely against you or any individual, but the whole fact that people are making such a huge fuss over it is really getting on my nerves. sure, it might cause some tensions and arguments here and there, but after a while people should just get over it. i still have the ability to decorate my page to my heart's content even without Core, and i'm perfectly fine with it.
if i was dA and people were trying to get me to reply or reason with them i wouldn't, because of how people are treating the issue. i'm pretty sure DeviantART is sick of all the complaints and boycotting, but idk, i don't know the truth

hehe im surprised of the amount of people agreeing with my comic seeing how the only stuff i found on this site was about "omg deviantart is horrible im leaving"
and "i hate core" . they want deviantart to communicate with their users , but if my users reacted like that all the time something changed (like the logo) i wouldnt bother doing it either

some people are so bad-tempered, you just don't want to deal with them because their reasons are so out of handΒ

i get you , i really do . that little money can be really important to people
but if it was really that important then they wont buy membership in the first place ,
if they would , it wouldn't be smart at all , its their money Deviantart doesnt decide for people to buy memberships or not
at the end of the day it would only be the fault of the buyer that they lost 5 dollars
π: 0 β©: 1
MoonSpaghetti In reply to looji [2015-08-05 18:19:57 +0000 UTC]
Of course they wouldn't use the money on the membership before getting what they need to survive, it just makes a lot of people feel a lot better fancying up their page to cover up the fact they're not wealthy and it makes it easier to get friends a lot of the time too believe it or not
And thank you for the polite reply, it really lifts my spirit in fact c:

i cant really understand that feeling , seeing how i mostly have membership because of the no adds , its just so much nicer to browse that way
but i can understand some feel that way . I just feel that if they would think that way they cant handle money yet ,
but then again , its their own problem sadly enough , deviantart cant do anything about that , they need the money as well , you cant manage a site this big for free
π: 0 β©: 1
MoonSpaghetti In reply to looji [2015-08-05 18:34:14 +0000 UTC]
Well you don't have to use 50$ just to get rid of ads! You can use adblock (like I always have) Some people used to be able to afford it but now can't - especially not in the long run. I'd rather have free customization of the profile page for 35$ without any other features then 50$ for all these different tools
...
also Adblock is free and reliable
π: 0 β©: 1
looji In reply to MoonSpaghetti [2015-08-05 18:43:49 +0000 UTC]
i already have adblocker installed , i just had membership for so long i forgot it also removes the adds from deviantart
but that doesnt make me stop buying it , i like the small feautures
if people dont want to buy it then thats their choice , people cant decide the prices themselfs just because they would like it more that way
thats just how the world is , no one can change that , and they shouldn't,Β it would be chaotic that way

it was at an extreme discount. $4,17 per month when broken down. they cant cut off an arm and leg to please everyone when right now the prices are already pretty decent

That's a pretty crummy excuse. If something is constantly on sale, then that is the price.
π: 0 β©: 1
bigfluffycow In reply to Kairu-Hakubi [2015-08-15 15:39:46 +0000 UTC]
and a company cant survive by putting things on a constant sale, now can they?

Kairu-Hakubi In reply to bigfluffycow [2015-08-15 16:30:52 +0000 UTC]
They must have, since they did it. But they must not have since they're evidently experiencing money problems. But it's not hard to come up with another reason for that is it? Considering how poorly run the site has pretty much always been, and what a terrible reputation it's built up in the community.
π: 0 β©: 1
bigfluffycow In reply to Kairu-Hakubi [2015-08-15 16:37:30 +0000 UTC]
they've kept the price the same since 2001, and there's been inflation. so what used to be $20 is now worth less, they need to charge more to get back on their feet

Kairu-Hakubi In reply to bigfluffycow [2015-08-15 19:18:57 +0000 UTC]

Nobody's going to believe the prices are the same since 2001.
