I discovered the wonderful Betty Page through the work of Dave Stevens, an artist who I greatly admired and whose work I love. Tragically we lost both of them last year and I started a little tribute piece, which then sat on my drawing table for months. Ran across it the other day and this joke just jumped out at me - so I adapted my original sketch and this is the result - a little gag and a tribute to the original and best queen of the pinup plus a thanks to everyone who's rummaged through my pictures, left comments and made me feel at home here on DA. The joke would work with 100 (betty) page views or 42000, but thank you everybody!Related content

I'm a huge Betty Page fan, so this is pure joy for me. Damn you nailed it! You amaze the hell out of me (I say it all the time to you). How long does it take you to do a piece like this, or your crocodile Dundee Jr. illustrastion? AMAZING.

Thanks man! Bit hard to say on the total hours - both were done in lots of smaller chunks of time, but the Bettie Page one probably took me around 12 hrs and the Dundee one 30 + hrs spread over a number of weeks.

There's a couple of pieces I have done where I'm sure I've clocked over 80hrs, but I'm too embarassed to add all the time up - your right, sometimes its just best not to know!

As for the spelling, annoyingly the 'Bettie' version occured to me after posting the piece - but I think I can get off on a technicality - I found some 50's Teaserarma posters listing her as the 'Saucy Betty Page' and the 1994 book "Betty Page confidential" uses the 'y' spelling. Pretty sure you are right though - the Bunny Yeager books list her as Bettie, as well as the Olivia book. Oh well, she's still wonderful however we spell her name!

Gotta reiterate how much I like your style... How do you get the flesh tones so smooth? What kinda Photoshop brush settings do you use?

Thanks! I just use the standard soft and hard brushes in photoshop and as for the process I usually use, I've posted a few step by steps

Thanks! Really depends on which illustration and how detailed I'm going to go - this one was squeezed around commercial work so it was done in little bits over a period of time - probably about 12 or so hrs.

yes ! i agree ....
i noticed that brown or honey coloured skin females look more amazing in the pictures , camera flash doesn't bounce on their skin tones .

dave stevens was amazing, he's one of my biggest inspirations and betty page was a million times more classy and attractive than any model today. this is a wonderful tribute to them.

Brilliant. Dave was a great artist. My husband has a Rocketeer shirt that Dave drew. This is a fantastic homage to both Betty and Dave.
