Description
Day four of my own personal 'How fast is your spaceship?' week of scifi nerdiness. Today, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy...My favourite book as a kid and I could quote great slabs of it. While the movie was never going to match the book, I still rather enjoyed it and I felt the design work was fantastic.
The Heart of Gold, stolen by Zaphod Beeblebrox (he's just this guy you know) was powered by an Infinite Improbability Drive that, when fully powered, passed through every conceivable point in every conceivable universe simultaneously. This, unfortunately, means that you areΒ "never sure where you'll end up or even what species you'll be when they get there" and "it's therefore important to dress accordingly".
Pencil, ink on paper, Paint in photoshop.

I guess its not everyone's Nutri-Matic liquid that is almost, but not quite entirely unlike tea.

To fly, you must throw yourself at the ground and miss, and clearly the hard part is the second part.

Technically it works since itβs how I would describe a orbital path around a floating chunk of space rock.

LOVED the original BBC miniseries...
...but the movie was, well, meh. Marvin was funny, and Martin Freeman made a very good Arthur; but they absolutely RUINED Zaphod. Gods, some of the absolute worst cinema drek ever. Unforgivably stupid.
Thankfully, the books will forever remain gold (get it? bwahahaha) and your artwork is equal gold
The tea cup is a brilliant touch!

The TV series was fantastic... and wonderfully true to the books, which I love so much.
Must try and find it on DVD sometime!
Always nice to hear from another Douglas Adams fan,
Cheers!

The BBC series made in the 70's (now available in video cassette (or perhaps DVD's by now) though shorter) was much better than the movie, in my honest opinion.

Agreed - the 80's TV show was both better and much closer to the book than the movie... but I still enjoyed the film, even if some of my fellow Douglas Adams fans didn't

Hmm. Was it the 80's? I thought it was 1978ish. Hmph, nope, it was 1981.
The film had it's moments. If nothing else, the "fleet of Vogon construction ships" was more believable in the film opposed to the tv series. In the tv series, it looked a little more like one huge ship.
I have the video cassette of the tv series, which I think I will go watch now.

Can I just butt in and say: "Listen to the Radio Series!' ?.

A 4 year old "butt." That sounds somewhat illegal.
However, creepy/witty attempts of segues aside, exception noted, but quibbled. Both radio, and TV series were made by Doug Adams (or with his hand was in it ...somehow). That said, the radio programme might have more in it, content wise, while the TV series would, obviously, have more visual impact (glass is half full = glass is half empty).
...and the typo nazi in me is screaming out to note that while you can "ask" with a question mark, you can only "say" with a period.
I enable my inner typo nazi. My profound apologies.

I loved all the science in the hitchhikers guide books... patently ridiculous, yet still playing around with uncertainty, quantum and theoretical physics!

Same. Yet I will always remember the gag were Earth's destruction could have been prevented if someone had made it to Alpha Centauri to file out some paperwork. Depressing, yet scientifically hilarious.

As was the radio play and the TV series. It still had a charm of its own and works best if you don't compare it with its source material

Quite interesting. But the big problem in the film is its pg rating rather than a pg-13.Β
(to me it looks to mature for a PG rated film)

I like your alias name, Wingpeanut Β I never gave the movie rating any thought... PG-13 is like our M I'm guessing? Interesting you felt it was Mature... hard for me to tell, I read the books when I was about 13 and neither they nor the movie presented any issues for me.

G means okay for anyone, so generally movies about unicorns and rainbows. PG means a teeny bit of violence, just enough so that younger kids should watch it with their parents (PG mean Parental Guidance). PG-13 means some language, some mild innuendo, and a fairly large amount of violence (as long as it's not too incredibly graphic) is allowed. PG-13 means that it's deemed suitable for kids over 13. R means lots of language, sex scenes/nudity, and graphic violence. Dunno how that compares to your ratings system.
