Description
Day two of my own personal 'How fast is your spaceship?' week of scifi nerdiness. Today, Star Trek...When I first left home, a friend lent me the entire run of Star Trek Next Gen and that was it, I was hooked (never had TV growing up and no movies... and been trying to make up for it ever since
Someone needs to create a new Star Trek series for TV I say!
Pencil, ink on paper, Paint in photoshop.

I've been rewatching the series and Picard seems to do a lot of 'Thank you Data' half way through the 27th decimal place or what not

Thanks! I've always wanted to draw Data - really fun character and thought he'd be an enjoyable challenge.. and he was!

You're absolutely right. We need another great ST series on TV. Ongoing storyline and all. Battlestar Galactica and Wlalking Dead come to mind as great examples of what can be achieved today. No "Enterprise" bullshit. ST:TNG and ST Classic series were great examples. Even DeepSpace Nine was a good show. But then ... all down the toilet ...

The quality in TV shows has taken a bit of a leap since even the most recent series, and as you say, there are great examples of how to tell good stories out there. The only problem I see would be how to marry Star Treks inherent optimistic tones with the current demand for more dystopic outlooks, but I'm sure in the right hands, we could have some TV Trekkie greatness once again!

But take the Borg-storylines as examples. They always have been the most dramatic, dystopic episodes. I think the overall tone of Star Trek wouldn't have to be left behind. Well, one can dream ... but as it stands even the third movie in the reboot-franchise has recently lost it's director. Star Trek seems like the step-child all the time.

Wow. no TV as a kid. That's rough. I grew up on this TV series and I loved it. They've done several Star Trek TV series since it went off the air in 1994. In the mid 2000's (2004-2005) they stopped making Star Trek TV shows, because they just weren't as popular as this series. I definitely agree that it's time for a new Trek show though. Nice Work on this pic.

Thanks! I had heard Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Hannibal etc) had pitched a new Star Trek series, but it got turned down - would have loved to have seen that.
I enjoyed Voyager and DS9, made it through Enterprise and just recently watched all the original series. Next Gen is still my favourite though... partly I guess coz it was the first series I saw

DS-9 was good, even though it copied a non-Star Trek series called Babylon 5.
I did not think Voyager was very good, and Enterprise was disappointing, although I usually like Scott Bakula as an actor. It's definitely time for a new series though. It's been over 10 years.

BIG Fan..!! And, in the event you weren't aware, the entire series has been redone and put on Blu-Ray. Which has really upped the ante on the FX.
All time favorite episode - "Ship in a Bottle"
Actually, in the Season 4 Episode, "Nth Degree", the ship manages to go beyond warp speed and traverse to the other edge of the galaxy in moments. But, in truth, that is an assist, so you probably don't want to count it.
Anyway... as a fellow fan/geek, I really grok the fullness of this one. Looking forward to more.
And, yes, there should definitely be a new series.

The new blu-ray version looks soooo good - currently rewatching the series in its remastered format at the moment. And yes, the FX's are great, yet still keeping with the spirit of the original stuff.
Ship in a Bottle is a fantastic episode - though I do get occasional flashes of 'The Nanny' when I see it now
One of my favourites is 'Inner Light' (Picard lives a lifetime on a planet and learns to play the wooden flute), but I'm sure there are plenty of others that I can't think of right now.
I knew there was at least one other 'jump across the galaxy' episode in there somewhere - I seem to remember a little bit of that on voyager too.
Always nice to run into fellow fans and glad you like this one!!

I'm guessing "Moriarty" was on 'The Nanny'..?
"Inner Light" is in my top ten, as well. I really liked the ones that got a little outside the basic template and made you think. Another one I really liked was, "The Chase", in Season 6. Where the old dude shows up, wanting Picard to go off with him on an archaeological expedition, he's killed and, in the process of trying to find out why, they discover what he was actually seeking... the origins, as it turned out, of all the separate races.
And, of course, EVERYthing Klingon. If I could have a wish-come-true, it would be to play a Klingon on a Star Trek... hell, anything.
I didn't like Voyager. I missed most of DS9 [they put it on a channel I couldn't get then on my dish - long, sad story], but I'm hoping they do it on Blu Ray too, now that TNG is done. I would really like to know how that one wrapped up.
Trek on, dude!
And, yeah, I'm kinda anxious to see what you come up with for our girl, Serenity.

they are my de facto star trek series.
tos, ds9, voy and ent are more or less mediocre.
not that some of the tng episodes are utter bullshit. shut up wesley.
also do a search for "djo happy in paraguay" for much hilarity.

Haha! You'll have to ask Data the parsec question.
As for the Geordi's visor, the prop department apparently used a hair band from the shops and painted it.

What’s so fiendish about a Rubik’s Cube when all sides are grey? …and now I know to hand-wash my starships in future!

All grey sided rubik's cubes are the most fiendish of all - you can never tell if you have it right or not and yes, never stick your enterprise in a dishwasher.
Cheers man and planning firefly for day 6 or 7
