Dave your work is fantastic! I am a fan I really do appreciate the work you put into your images! I myself just started with illustrator, and while i can see the end result blending coloring etc. being similar to yours in my mind but doesnt come I am curious to know what suggestions advice you may have, is it gradient mesh? Noobish to illustrator! Thanks for your time!

Thanks for checking out my work- I actually paint most of my work in photoshop (including this picture) - I use illustrator for flat cartoon work only.
If your interested in meshes and grades, have a look at CRcerberus's stuff on DA ([link] ), though I know he uses freehand (a similiar product illustrator).
