I only did the cover for Dangerous Curves, but I did 3 pieces in 'Mermaids Song', 4 in 'Sword Song, Sisterhood of Steel' and just finished of a couple of new covers.

Thanks! Smoke is completely made up and painted freehand with a mouse. Did take some photos of smoke from a candle and study them closely first though, just to see how it acts, then I applied that knowledge to creating my own. I really like learning why things are, rather than just copying something - that way it becomes broadly useful, rather than just the one time. Hope that made sense!

I've only just picked up a digital paintbrush and I have absolutely no idea how I could achieve a result like you have here. Any chance you could give away a few insights? Maybe a walk through of the process? A tutorial perhaps? (I've just been churning through SteveSanchez's ( [link] ) video tutes, they're great.
But with this piece, I've got no idea where you would have even started. Lots of photo refs? Such lightplay off the skin and the boots...I'm seeing but I just am not believing how that's possible!

Sorry to make you cry! Glad you like it though. The picture actually started off more cartoony, but I kind of got lost in the details (not unusual for me!) and it ended up like this. Painted really large, so its probably hard to see the brush strokes at this scale too.
