her cries grew weaker as she shivered in the cold.

but suddenly, she grew warmer as something enveloped her tiny body, scooping her off the ground.

the warmth seeping into her was enough to give her the strength to begin cracking open her eyes for the first time, blinking away the fluid that had crusted over them. she stared up into the face of the warmth, seeing their own eyes gazing back, a welcome emotion there. they were not happy, but it wasn't a bad emotion for them to be feeling for her, she thought. she wasn't sure what it was.

she gazed up at them in wonder, still shivering slightly, but a smile slowly drew over her face. she giggled, a tiny, bubbly little giggle, and pawed at the warmth-bringer's face, then tried to nuzzle closer. they seemed to be trying to look her over, though.

while they were busy doing that, her stomach gurgled, and she realized that now that she was no longer cold she had a more pressing concern: hunger. she was starving. a renewed bout of crying began, this time for her empty belly.

"oh, shhh, shhhh," the warmth-bringer shushed, bouncing her gently in their arms. they held her closer, and she nuzzled deep into the fur on their chest for warmth and to try to find food, but instantly started to fuss again when she realized she would get none from this gro. were warmth-bringers and food-bearers supposed to be two different things? she didn't think so, but what did she really know?

it occured to her that they were moving now, but she couldn't be bothered to care as she cried in her raspy little voice. she was warm now, but hungry. after hunger was solved, would she find another problem in her way?

life was, so far, unkind to this little wyngling. one could only hope her future would look brighter.
