Description While visiting a temple in Vietnam, I caught a glance of this man, teaching, praying and smiling all the while, despite goofy tourists everywhere. The power of a smile is almost unparalled.

I know that most people do not really appreciate this type work on DA (i hope more people subit photojournalism), but i would like people to get a chance to see some of my street portraiture...i think it is the most profound type of photography...it opens the mind to the similarities in people.

Thank you.

Great capture. I hope he that he is secretly is laughing at all those goofy tourists ... everybody deserves his smile.
I wish I could do portraits, but I'm afraid that I will never be good at it, because I myself hate it to be the subject of the camera ...

Very true. And this is a good shot. I would also like to see a closeup of his face.

And I think journalism type photos are appreciated on dA, just not as much as those manipulation stuff.

It is completely appropriate for DA!! It is beautifully taken too! You should consider putting out prints of this - I know I would buy one. It would go nicely in my meditation room.

Wow...that`s a really great shot. About what does the old man probably smile? It is admission completely after my personal feeling, but in one I give you right: Serious photographs - which are to energize for thinking - are not typical for Dev. Unfortunately.

I have wanted to go to Vietnam for a long time now.

The man in this photo reminds me of a brilliant karate master who sometimes comes to our club to teach; Sensei Ochi.

He is very old (Over 70 I think) and he is always smiling. And despite his age, he is always the life and soul of the party.

Great shot

"I know this is not really DA type work"

I think you missed something very basic if this is really your opinion... DA should NOT be for any specific "type" of work... It should be open to everything that people think is art.
Or am I the one who is missing something here?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

lorrainemd In reply to aeon-81 [2003-12-27 18:54:54 +0000 UTC]

i agree that everything should be allowed here, but it seems journalism and street photography is not super appreciated...
that doesn't stop me from submitting, but not as often.

Miss i believe that Photojournalism is the most moving of the photography genre.
And you dear have the eye for it.

My work submited at mo is very simple snap shot work.
But alas Photojournalism is what i wanna start looking at. Starting with home and my area.

I'd really like to see people submitting what they like... not what they think people will like. Because the latter is what art makes worse.

I think it is perfect for DA. Of course, I know other people on my watch who have pictures like these, so maybe I'm not getting the full view of art on here, but I like this style. It's neat seeing candid shots of people. I love the lighting on this one with the yellowish tones, and I love his smile
