I always felt I could do this series much better. (You find the old version here   www.deviantart.com/loulin/art/…) “Earth” and “Wind” were both based on the old paintings but with fire I just had to create something much better than the rather simple design from 2013. That decision inevitably caused much thinking and nervous pulling of hair before I felt confident I had a good substitute that both fitted within the theme and matched up their standards. And in the end of it all, let me tell you that I will not paint congealed runny lava again for a looooong while. The general blotchiness of the background is because of salt – salt flakes to be specific.

Enjoy.

Keep the fire burning and admire its awesomeness but don’t burn yourself or others.

Tools: Watercolour, some masking fluids and a smidge of white acrylics
Size: Original = 30x40 cm / 12x16 in
Time: About 32 hours over 14 workdays  (as always I’m not counting the time looking for good references, cleaning up, preparing, or moments just waiting for paint to dry)

This time it's me who's "fashionable" late (and quite much indeed).

When I first time saw the thumbnail of the WIP picture you uploaded here, my first reaction was: "I'll have one cooked only on one side".  And still this brings me some mental images of a lava/volcano-egg, with a fiery golden yolk,  ready to burst at any moment. So "the dynamic" is definitely there. Hopefully you can "stomach" this unusual ideogram of mine in this case.

And, like others have already pointed out, the lava is well made (even if it was a pain in the bum to do).

Well... Late you might be but you came eventually, right?

Oh my stomach... I think the egg-connotations were ineviatble in the end. There weren't many ways that I could convey both the core fire and the surface fire without it. At least I kept my precious cricles.
And when you think about it - if all active volcanoes should burst in one glorious coordinated catastrophe, Earth would probably indeed crack like an egg. So maybe you're not that far off as you think.

I like both versions But this current one is more dynamic

Yes... that's thing I was going for: "dynamic". It's never wrong painting a bit of fire but the old one always felt a little too simple (even back when I made it) so I really wanted to up the ante with the new version. More colours, more movement (if possible) and a little more asymmetry.
Glad you like them both.

Thanks, Shelz. It was a right ole pain in the butt (live and congealed version) to get somewhat correct.
Glad you liked it.
