Description
Yeah, I've been thinking about doing one of these for a while, so I decided what the heck!I chose a particular page of my webcomic, one which shows nothing of the plot, generally light hearted (In which most of the comic really isnt right now) and has quite a few different important comic making tips I wanted to do.
I might not be a professional, but I will one day, and I've been studying different manga's for a long time now. I decided I'd try and give you what little knowledge I've learned, and how exactly I do my comics.
Webcomic of this page link over here --> [link]
Amy Reeder Hadley, artist of Fools Gold here --> [link]
And of course, Amy Reeder Hadley's own inking tutorial, that focus's more on character inking then whole page inking. --> [link]
I hope you all enjoyed this, and can put it to good use.
DOWNLOAD TO MAKE IT SLIGHTLY LARGER IF YOU NEED IT.

Good tutorial~
I must mention though, manga is traditionally inked using ink and nibs. (most common brand used is deleter)
I thought I should mention, I was under the impression you thought Rumiko Takashi and other japanese manga artist use the type shown in the tutorial...
This type is only used to draw the boxes around the images x:
And actually, the nibs and ink are hard to use, takes time to get used to.
Not bashing, just pointing out P:

Not once did I say Rumiko Takashi uses my methods. I was pointing out line variation. If you notice I also kept saying "I use--" Which means its a pen I prefer to use over other pens. I never said "All manga artists do it this way!" or anything like that. You coming to that conclusion doesnt make sense because I never said they did it that way.
Also: I know all about the pen and nib. But as you can tell, I dont ink that way. I use other methods I felt like sharing that still gets the job done.

not sure, but I know a large majority can be found in Aisle Art, and Hobby Lobby. They're great fun to work with! You might just have to look around. I've never been to Micheals, so I wouldnt know personally. ^^

Hmmm.. I don't know where to find a Hobby Lobby or an Aisle Art strore. I say it because I'm mexican, and I live near the border, so I can go once a moth or maybe twice. Don't worry and thanks for your help, I might ask my US family.
Also, I'm worried because I ink with sharpie, and it's a pain in the ass on the details. > .>

eep! You should really consider doing at least ballpoint pens. D: They're far better then sharpies anyday. Sure they're kinda a pain to use, but they are slightly better. D:
Do you have any spanish art stores in the area, or no? Maybe your US family could pick you up a couple, or something. XD If I'm right the really really deep south is pretty baren (I do live in the south but not that far) so you might need to do a drive to find one, which I can imagine would be a total pain.

I use ultra fine Sharpies... but still the lines that it make are big... :/
Hmm maybe in los Angeles? xD
But yeah, I started with ballpoints. but will see...
I guess we mexicans have stores taht sell them, but one single pen like the ones tahat you use may cost (aprox. price in dollars) 40 dollars. Which it's like me in mexican pesos... like 520 pesos... X___X Also, in the place I live, whe don't have Officemax's stores, that sell them.

OMG SERIOUSLY? That is a total ripoff. I mean, I guess technically they must be imports, but like, America is RIGHT THERE, next to Mexico. They'd really be ripping you off.
I have an idea though! Is there anyway you can purchase things over the internet? You could get really cheap prices for the same pens!
I'm personally too much of a "I want it now" person, so I just cant buy pens online, however since you're in a difficult predicament, maybe online shopping is whats best for ya.

YA SERIOUSLY. I know. and we have tax of (remaing seated please... xD)
10% So, to the 520 pesos that I tolded you before, think about 525.50 pesos.
Yes, your idea is cool, but I'm less than 18..
I should look for them at Micheals.
They might be not in a "close-to-the-border-shop" But I found different materials in a Micheals not so far away from the border, that has different materials, such as copics.
Hey! me too! xD
I don't know. I tell you if I get them 'kay? <3

If you do get them, I defenitly want to know! Keep me up on the updates!

Try investing in some speedball India ink and some extra fine sable brushes. you will be amazed at what a little practice can get you with such a tool.
I Highly recomend these!> [link]
And if you want them to last longer get a good hair conditioner and dip the tips in it before shaping them into there proper shapes/storing.
Send me a note if you want more info on the topic

Using Manga Studio is a lot like traditional inking, so a lot of that was helpful to me as well

Really nice tutorial. I can't say that I learned anything new, but I still had fun reading it. It's interesting to see how everyone does it different.
I don't think I've inked a somehting with a pen in years. o.O

awesome! I hope you end up finding these pens to your liking.
I get my Faber-Castell pen from hobby lobby, and I'm pretty certain you can get the Tech Pen from there as well, but generaly I go to my local college to buy that one.
Apparently the rolling ball pen good for fast strokes is harder to find, but I always find it at my local wallgreens.
Of course these are all my pens of choice, because I know for certain they'll do a good job.
