Description A guide, trying to help TOTAL BEGINNERS approach a comic.

Um, not sure how much this helps.

I really just kinda tried to summarise what I personally have to say to answer the question:

Hey, do you have any advice for starting a Nuzlocke Comic?

Most frequently, people ask about how much you should have with the plot and what kind of format they should use.

But with many people, I think the problem is more basic. They over-worry the how and they don't do the WHAT.
So the bottom part kind of turned out a motivational speech.

I don't consider myself any kind of authority, and everything I write is POSSIBLY wrong. Take what helps YOU and ignore the rest.

Not sure how much this is good. Please leave feedback. I know it's a wall of text, but, eeeh… I don't really know how to do tutorials.

As far as further tutorials go… If there's demand, I'll try and do similar guides. I don't think I'm any good with actual artistic advice (there's tons of better artists out there) but I do think I can do this theoretical work… question being whether it helps at all. So, yeah, please leave feedback as to whether you found it helpful or absolutely horrible. :T

oh well now that is keeper, I was swimming in murky water trying figure out for some reason, I was reading two books they said there options were make title bit, work on what you like first, what works for you and then character development, scene development and I was thinking I should probably keep tabs where story in my head is at so dear lord I don't get overwhelmed most people write web I write story down. Currently I am writing encylopedia which bothersome I feel Like I made tome of crazy intel. I don't think there anyone out there able to handle my story or navigate its water go hey I going to do her story handle it. for me making dudes was hard enough. Chicks it might take me day without goat duty. <- even though I find inspiration to make comics.

Hey, I love writing stories but I lack in the art department if anyone is interested in helping me. My email is navpreetkanda1@hotmail.ca. I also wouldn't mind help with the story because I am lacking in experience

I completely suck at art.  Heck, I was only making a nuzlocke comic because drawing & pokemon calmed my nerves (so why not put them together?).
Then I read your guide and looked at the YTWC'a art-by-year comparison.  You helped me realize that I still have a long way to go.  But that's ok.  As long as I keep drawing, I have to get better!

Ich arbeite zwar schon seit 'ner Weile mit 'nem Kumpel an einem Comic, aber

Und mit dem hab ich bis jetzt noch nicht angefangen...

Put links to the next, previous and first page (of the whole series if neverending or the chapter AND the whole series if broken into episodes/chapters/issues) on EVERY page.

Me coming to your comic and wondering where the start or next page is and giving up cuz I shouldn't have to try to enjoy something is the worst thing.

Even if you don't like HTML just copy/pasting the urls into the description is better than nothing.

That's the best piece of advice I can give. If you're making random comics, chances are dA will show the others in the suggested arts to the right, but that's not a guarantee.

Another tip I can give is to put a link to the first comic in your signature. Don't go to people's pages asking to read your comic it's fine to advertise on your journal, but going to other people's pages and only mentioning your comic feels like an unwanted salesman trying to trick me into something.

Though if you have a link in your sig, people will see your comments and go "huh what's that?" and they'll keep reading and get hooked hopefully.

Hope that helps.

Wow, I originally started reading this because I wanted to get into comics for a few short projects, and because I love reading comics, but I ended up not only getting exactly the right tips I needed to organize myself and get started, but a huge motivational speech as well. Thank you so much for this! It was very well written, and exceptionally helpful at that! Thank you very, very much!

Thanks, Wasser. I needed to be told this.

I've been wanting to do Nuzlocke comics for several months now, but I've never felt prepared enough to actually start.

I've had multiple plots and characters I ended up not using, but ever since the first time I've got the itching, I've been gettig better and better art-wise. I indeed think it is time for a start.

And, why do I want to start a Nuzlocke comic? To get even better! Also, it looks like something fun that'll help me improve in storytelling, too.

Heck, I haven't even started And I've learned a lot! Everytime I see someone's Nuzlocke pages I feel really motivated, and I'd love to make others feel like that, too.

So, it's off with me now! Wish me luck! I'm a little scared, but I gotta start NAO!

Thanks again!

This helps me A LOT. But I still have a question. How do you piece the pictures (panels) in your comic together to make the strip? For example, I have all the panels seperate on my computer and I don't know how to put them together into a strip to make it... Well, to make it a comic. I don't have Photoshop but I do have Sketchbook Pro. How would you make such a large jpeg? (sorry if this is confusing but I am, after all, very confused)

And thank you!

Wasserbienchen In reply to sibiawesome [2013-09-04 22:51:30 +0000 UTC]

… I personally draw all panels on one file. o.o

If you were to assemble them, I guess you'd have to make a new document and insert every single one?

sibiawesome In reply to Wasserbienchen [2013-09-05 00:13:50 +0000 UTC]

The only problem I'm having with that is the zoom in (and the file being too big). You can't see the detail if I put it on here by zooming in. So... Any advice, I guess?

This tutorial is possibly the most helpful thing ever for me! I want to draw my own comics and I've had tons of idea, but they usually left my interest before I got a chance to even start. Right now I've got this idea for a comic, and I truly wish to actually start and finish it, but I had no idea how to even start it.
I literally could not figure out how to get the plot down on paper, but this tutorial has helped me out immensely! Now I have an idea of how I can get my idea's down on paper! Thank you so much for this!
