Title. Downpour of raw anger.
It's strange how people you really don't want in your life keep crawling back. In a way. They mess you up and even though they are long gone, you are still broken.
Is it possible that Trent Reznor's songs so often describe my feelings?
I used to be so big and strong. I used to know my right from wrong. I used to never be afraid. I used to be somebody.
Half of my deviations serve as an art therapy anyway :/

And i was feeling some feelings you wouldn't believe.
Sometimes i don't believe them myself and i decided i was never coming

Actually, I've been around DA for more than 6 years. That means that so far I have gotten DD about once a year.
I will make a list of fractal artists that have about the same number or even much more DDs than me: ~Beesknees67 `lindelokse *LeXXe =coby01 *Fiery-Fire `MichaelFaber `JoelFaber =FractalEuphoria `Aeires =psion005 *Xantipa2 *Vibratum - some of them have even 7 or 8! And those are only names that I remember, don't let me go through my watchlist!
So you see, I am certainly not an exception

I know, I mean, it seems to have to do with popularity more than quality (although the DD works I have seen are certainly not bad). Those names there are very popular fractalists.

Popularity? In some cases yes, when one makes quality works, they get more watchers and perhaps more DD suggestions. On the other hand there are oftimes DDs given to almost complete newbies so they would get more recognition.
I think that it is about 50/50. Half of the featured are already popular and stunning artists and the other half are unknown ones with very good artworks, on their way to become stunning.

I can't help thinking how giving 6 deviants 1 DD instead of 1 deviant 6 DD's would probably be more fair, and I am still trying to find some recognition after 5 years.
However, it's probably just me. My last art piece is almost a year old now. If it weren't for awesome, inspiring people like you, I would probably have lost interest in making something new at all.
I guess my feelings are also driven by the fact that late last year, for a reason still unknown to me, a very inspiring person, who used to be one of my favourite artists and online friends, blocked me (I have seen it is a friend of you as well, and yes, she has many DD's as well).

Actually I think that almost every fractal artist that I know has at least one DD. I guess that it is much more difficult to get a DD on a photo.
Perhaps you could try to get into Apophysis more? Apophysis offers a very wide range of possibilities, I highly reccomend it.
Anyway, tell me, what is a DD to you? A way to get more recognised around DA?
And I am sorry about the friend blocking you. There may be many reasons why it has happened. If it was a female, maybe her boyfriend forbade her to talk to "unknown" guys on the internet...

I am pretty sure that last thing is not the case, but thank you for your understanding.
Are you thinking I am being too selfish? I just want to make people happy with my art, I have done so a few times on small scales (like Christmas cards for a small non-profit company). After years of trying I found something I am moderately good at (or am I?), but my statistics really suck.
I have considered a secondary account for photos, as that is not what I want a DD in. I don't see myself as a photo pro and I see too many others who think they are a pro just because they got a fancy camera.
I value your honest opinions, you can verbally slap my face if I deserve it...

I don't think that wanting more recognition is selfish. Not at all. I think that the more popular the artist is, the better he/she gets. With wider audience one thinks twice before submitting an artwork. One tries harder when 200 people watches them, instead of 20.
Even I want wider audience because it literally makes difference between life and starvation in my case. Most of the commissions I get occur thanks to my DA account...
So, no slapping will take place because I think that I can understand whatever reason for wanting a DD. I was just being curious
And what you say to Apophysis? Won't you look into that?

I am glad I am not dependent on selling anything, I would like to some time though...
I have tried Apophysis a few years ago, but I could not really find my way in it, I am more of a math guy, too much stuck to Ultra Fractal I guess

Well, it's not much about selling, it's more about graphics stuff. Most customers write to me "I saw your DA gallery and I would like you to create a website header for me" or stuff like thet. Prints earnings are just a small part of my income. So, the more people see my page, the higher chance is that I will find a new customer for graphic design commission.

Not nearly as versatile either, it seems I can only download packs and not make any gradient or edit formulae, at least, I could not find how. Too used to UF I guess.
Things might be different for a fractal wizard like you though

It is... I intend to write a few words on this topic in my journal. I find it curious that the more we talk with people about our problems, the more bearable the problems become. Imagine what happens when you put your problem in an artwork and release it to thousands of people to see...
