Guess who's back, the lazy tweak again! I've been making some stock images and then I came up with this. I was about to just throw it to the rest of my sketches but I liked it too much. Sorry, not sorry This is technically my last piece from 2016 but then Christmas happened and then I woke up one day and it was 2017 already. Time became too wibbly-wobbly for me to grasp, it seems.
I'm a bit insecure about these galaxy images, mainly because Sam is like the god of fractal galaxies and I'm silly little cave-woman scribbling images on a wall in compare. Here, have a bag of my insecure crap and dump it somewhere, I can't carry it all the time
Anyway, happy 2017, let's hope it will suck less than 2016

Thank you for all favourites, comments, critiques and devwatches! It means a lot to me.

I like the way this artwork is displayed and put down. The name is very fitting and the colors are very pleasing to the eye. The contrasts of blue and purple are brilliant, either you got lucky with the gradient or just simply downloaded one, anyway this piece is a work of thought and hard work in rendering. Amazing job fellow Apophysis user.

Hi thanks for the fav and interest.

I note the creeping self doubt, I find it comes in cycles but I am on the manic depressive spectrum.  However, you have already beaten the problem by  joining the site and uploading pictures. This shows you do have enough self worth to create the pictures and sharing them.  I had to be pushed to upload my snap shots and that was a year after I joined the site.

So you are strong enough to show your work, other people like your work , and very importantly you want to improve.

Do not worry about people like Sam look at his stuff for inspiration and then do your own work

You ask for a Critique of your work, which also shows again your power to beat doubt.  The image you almost threw away or sidelined "So Let It begin" must have something that you relate to. The site rules say any critique must be "in depth"
but that means that the person being critical must know what they are talking about. I have had some basic art training both at school and art college.

I have played about with fractal software and find it hard work unless you use an auto creator like the tool in Greys' Magic Image Converter. (Gmic) It's worth a go it is free software and runs on all platforms. It plugs into GIMP which I use in conjunction with with Darktable and Inkscape. I run a Linux Box. I also tend to look at images not as art for art;s sake but what use could one make of it.

My first impression of So let it begin was like some of the other comments "very pretty". I like blue and the image is blue, monochrome in fact. A whole spectrum of blue in fact. ( I was taught to think of black and white as non-colours ) Looking more carefully though you do get a sense of calmness.

If I try to look at the image from your perspective I have to try and forget the self doubt stuff you talk about.  Otherwise the easy observation is that the darkness creeping down the image actually represents the doubt and the light your self worth keeping it at bay. Note the balance of  power is with the light which is punching it;s way up through the darkness. The image is positive.

I suppose you chose the title in the sense the image might represent star creation but if you look at pictures of ,say, "The Seven Sisters " star cluster you see the intense white light of the new stars. However if you  put bright stars into your image it would spoil the whole thing. So my only real problem is with the title not the image.  It reminds me of stained marble and that leads me to the comments below.I think it could be adapted for use in glassware
he light.

Another observation is that the image at first glance looks very 2D but in fact it has depth and perspective that draws the eye into the image and then the detail catches the eye. You did right to keep it and share it.

I change tack here and make a few comments about making use of your work. So Let it Begin could be of interest to "High End" interior designers. Nicely  printed and framed it made a good "detail" in these modern mostly white with a lot off glass. Though the image needs to scale to A1 or A2.

The other thought that struck me was this image and some of the others would make great  floor tiles image a whole floor covered with your images. It could be used for sheet flooring, and curtain fabrics.  Art does not have to be something hanging on a wall.  Also for decorative papers.  Wrapping papers for example.

I use images like yours for backgrounds for CD covers and labels. I download some interesting music form www.jamendo.com (free music and some of very high standard) and then burn a cd and make the label and artwork. I usually do a production run of 3 or 4 copies. My friend Kevin is always wary if I give him CDs because he thinks  my taste in music is "off the wall"  -eg Siberian "Jews " Harp or Jaw Harp music.

I am also interested in producing textures for use in bookbinding a hobby I am returning to after 30 years.

I will stop here as I am struggling to continue. This is the 4th time I have tried to do this and I keep on closing the page down by mistake and having to start again, If I have written anything silly forgive me. I have to take powerful pain killers some days and I get spaced out and it is hard to stay focused. I will have typed each word at least twice. I think I have corrected the spellings.

I hope some of what I have written is of some help, but there seems to as much about me as you. Perhaps the real power of your image is that it can provoke thought in people.

All the best Richard Castle. ( Barneydog is asleep on my bed)

Thank you, you're very kind! It's hard not to compare oneself to others. Usually, it's a source of inspiration and growth but sometimes doubts creeps in.
