doesnt matter if LJN produced them or just released them. they still approved the shitty games and allowed them to be released.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

Awesomeness360 [2016-05-01 21:05:17 +0000 UTC]

And yet, every time one of those shitty games came out, it was always under the LJN name, hence why they are referred as LJN games, so they're still shitty LJN games.

To elaborate further: Β LJN was an American publisher that wanted to capitalize on the success of the NES. Β The first eight LJN games were made by various Japanese companies, and LJN approached Atlus as a subcontractor. Β Atlus did develop games for LJN, but Atlus also outsourced the development of the games to other companies. Β Atlus made Karate Kid, Friday the 13th, and that MLB game. Β Atlus got Sanritsu to make Gotcha!, T&C Surf Designs, and the NFL game. Β These six games all had one employee in common, Atlus' Hirohiko Takayama. Β He did the music and sound effects for all of these games. Β You can tell how those games are made by different companies because Atlus' games have very basic, rudimentary graphics, while Sanritsu's games have more detailed, expressive graphics. Β The Sanritsu games also share the same "FLING" sound effect. Β The other two Japanese LJN games were Jaws, which was made by West One, the Wonder Boy people, and the Uncanny X-Men. Β No one knows who made the X-Men game.

After that, LJN managed to strike deals with English and Australian companies. Β Rare (Roger Rabbit, Nightmare on Elm Street), Software Creations (Pictionary), and Beam Software (Back to the Future). Β Pictionary was the very last LJN game released under the "Enteractive Video Games" banner, after that, LJN was bought by Acclaim to be used as a second publisher. Β These three companies continued to work for LJN after the Acclaim buy out.

I know, the picture is from 2012, but hey.

cyrad [2013-10-08 15:05:06 +0000 UTC]

Actually, the publisher does have a large involvement in the quality of a game. Most notably, they determine the game's deadline, scope, and have final say in many aspects of the game. Not only have publishers ruined games, but also ruined entire game series. EA's involvement with Ultima 8 and 9 are excellent examples of this.

Correction, Rare only made some of the LJN games. They never made any for the SNES or Genesis and cut their contract once the Head guys knew what was going on.

Well, that's interesting to know. I knew LJN was just a publisher, but I didn't know Rare made any of those games. But since Rare made so many MORE kickass games like Battletoads and R. C. Pro-Am, they can be forgiven...

I think the only really bad game under the LJN label or whomever is the Back to the Future one. I never really thought the Roger Rabbit/Nightmare on Elm Street games were -that- bad, lol. Questionable decision, yeah, but not as bad as AVGN makes them sound, lol.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

LucidARTDVC In reply to Ari-Dynamic [2012-05-22 08:59:04 +0000 UTC]

True. Some LJN games weren't THAT bad
You know, guys who made Back to the Future also did Shadowrun for SNES... which was named "the best RPG of 1993 year" by VideoGames, Electronic Games, and Game Informer magazines

Ari-Dynamic In reply to LucidARTDVC [2012-05-22 09:30:01 +0000 UTC]

About Super Man 64... God was kind and I've never seen that game
