Description
Painted for a Dungeons and Dragons game my friends and I our currently playing, we decided to forgo the usual high fantasy setting and replace it with a setting made up from a mixture of James Bond, the Metal Gear Solid series and Red Alert. Our scenario is set on a cruise ship in an alternate universe where the USSR never collapses and the Cold War continues to the present day.
The helicopter in this painting is a fictitious Mil-Mi 224T Hyperion Transport helicopter, presumably the largest in the world as its dimensions far surpass those of the Mil-Mi 26 Halo and even the Mil-Mi 12 Homer. I imagine it would be nearly 50 Metres in length and well over 80 Metres wide, including the span of its triple rotor system. In the game its maximum take off weight is roughly 400 tons, 150 of which is useful payload.
The rather unique triple rotor system was borrowed from the real life Cierva W.11 Air Horse helicopter from the late 1940's and is actually quite practical for a design such as this since designing and building three 40 metre rotors is much more in the realms of practicality, having been achieved on several existing Soviet helicopters, rather than having to figure out how to build either one or two larger diameter rotors.
It's been quite some time since I've attempted a painting of this complexity and I feel it shows slightly so any feedback would be most welcome.
