Description
A model airship I made during my final year of university. I'm not much of a miniature maker but I did rather enjoy designing and building the airship, which is my interpretation of what a personal airship could look like.I figured such a ship would have to be tall rather than long so that it could be more easily stored by the average person. It is highly manoeuvrable thanks to the use of contra-rotating, variable pitch propellers and can perform snap turns on the spot using differential collective pitch on its vertical lifting propellers, allowing it to steer in a fashion similar to that of co-axial helicopters built by the Kamov company in Russia.
The model itself is made of lots of materials such as fibreglass, two parts plastics, vacuforming and cannibalised airfix kits. I used multiple part mould making to build several of its components.
