I personally like to push the envelope and challenge what can be called a "dragon", however for a person looking to design a more traditional Western-style dragon, this is a fantastic tutorial. I really appreciate the wing points, that something huge would not realistically be able to fly and this is strictly fantasy, and that wings need their own shoulders and a keel, which a lot of dragon artists goof on.

Hm, that's actually a very good question...
For now the only animal doing this in my mind is monkey... That would be a good start to rely on their anatomy! Like... human/anthro style with longer arms, maybe?

But why that neck? xD Not a single of the real life examples you gave has a neck like that... Why can't it be the neat, elegant neck, more like a swan than a (heavily caricaturised here) monitor?
Why say it's like a must, instead of simply admitting it's your personal preference? BTW as anything dragon related actually is... It's been bothering me about dragon tutorials a lot.
Even about wings and their membrane attachment range. Think about bumblebee, scientists would negate its existence as of a flying creature if it weren't for the fact it does exist and flies... How can that majoirty supporting some theory know that a dragon with less membrane attachment really wouldn't be able to fly, if a bumblebee can and noone can explain how come it can? Perhaps we shouldn't go that far into defining what would be correct or incorrect, and focus more on general but problematic things like musculature? Or just defining it 'dragons according to *insert name*' + disclaimer that other views can be accepted too?
Ana aren't dragons wrong by the mere basic definition? For being vertebraes with more than 2 sets of limbs? Nothing on Earth has other number than 2 pairs of limbs while being a vertebrae, and dragons are definitely drawn as if they were supposed to be vertebraes for havign a spine and stuff. And we can't really assume if a dragon of non-Earth like anatomy and not matching the laws of Earth physics (gravity, mass, carrying power for flight etc.) wouldn't be just right for sme other world/planet?
Also, if an eastern can fly without wings... xD
I'm sometimes wondering if aren't we making sci-fi out of fantasy...

Wow... Come on, you don't have to be offended by tutorials. XD
Actually, I know dragons do not exist. And by exemple, as you said, it's not physically possible that an eastern dragon could fly. That's just magic. So yes, we could do/draw anything about them.
But that does not prevent to rely on real references. Yes, this is my "personal preference", and you know why? Because it looks more realistic, and because it's always better than something that looks completely off. But if you prefer drawing without thinking about those kind of things, just do as you want, I don't force anybody to. xD
No need to criticize my way of viewing things. I only try to help, and if people don't want to follow this tutorial, they do as they want.

Ps: What you say about bumblebees, and vertebrates with more than 2 pairs of limbs: I explained that in the tutorial. I guess you didn't even read it then!

Wow !
