"C'est la Vie!"

If you accept her bouquet you will suffer a terrible sadness.

She is the wind that cools the tear on your cheek, She is the dust at your feet,
She is the shadow you dare not meet,
She is the sadness you do not seek.

Hmm I feel a copyright coming on !

She is like a living rafflesia plant... Surrounded by venus fly traps...

The very personification of carniverous plants... A beauty, but with a catch...

I like it better than the famous saying of every rose has its thorns..

Ah fun fun.

Once upon a time, there was a little forest. It emitted foul fumes and caused anyone who dared enter it to inadvertently kill everyone around them including themselves. The village nearby dubbed it the Gateway to Hell, as the only living things that passed through the forest safely were oodles of butterflies. Unable to take the freakiness any longer, the village one day decided to bury a pretty young girl beneath the forest, in hopes of easing whatever curse it was that caused these mysterious happenings (Because, well, that's what you do when things are cursed. Put something pretty in it.)

Surprisingly enough, it worked, at the expense of the poor girl and her undertakers who happened to be the last victims of the terrible little forest. Their blood was splattered over her 'grave', hardening it with clot and her unhappy soul sat trapped under the cursed ground.

One day her soul looked up, and thought to itself: "perhaps if I capture a million butterflies, they will fly me out of this terrible grave, and I myself will be free". So she reached out, and sprouted a million fly traps- yet the butterflies would not come, deftly flying above their welcoming clutches. So she reached out again, remembering the nostalgic scent of the small white water daffodils in her garden.

Instantly the butterflies flocked, and as they neared, the traps would snap, swallowing them whole.

...Hee. So she continues to sit in her grave, stringing up the small fluttering souls of little butterflies, hoping to get enough someday to fly her out.

Wahhh, that's totally amazing. So impressive...

Well, I'm not very good at interpreting art. So I really won't do a good job, no matter how hard I try. But I was reading through some other people's thoughts on it, and I agree a lot with what ^ctJemm said, except I don't agree with how they said the girl in the painting has the "come hither" kind of look. In my opinion, she looks sort of sad, as if she's carrying some sort of heavy burden or disease even, which is why you mustn't accept her bouquet, because then she'll carry it over to you.

But I hope I didn't offend you by linking your wonderful painting to a disease! >n<

Mlle-Airas In reply to ??? [2009-02-19 10:15:03 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for my bad english but I'm going to try to explain my opinion.
I think she's a dangerous woman. ^^ It can be a plant like already said (I agree with this interpretation) but it can be a metaphor or an allegory too.
For the description:
The light around her head can make to think to a halo like in the holy image, moreover she's very beautiful and the butterflies can be a sign of gentleness because they used to be afraid by humans (or it's a carnivorous plant waiting for a prey)
She appears like someone sweet and nice especially with her innocent expression ^^
But, at the bottom, carnivorous plants eat the butterflies and seem to come out of her kimono. The ribbons look like blood in the plants.
Her bait is the white posy (color of purity) probably in order to eat humans
I notice a source of light in the right at the bottom, maybe it's to reinforce the opposite between the evil of carnivorous plant and beauty of normal plant.
I hope I haven't made a mistake ^^

It's very well done, and you have thought a lot of details for interpretation.
How many time did you spend to found these ideas?

She wants to be the most beautiful one, more beautiful than the butterflies, so she lures them to her with her flower. This flower turns out to emit poisonous gases that affect others only, so when the butterflies reach her they get eaten by the Venus Fly Traps. She uses the Venus Fly Traps because she knows that they are uglier than her and therefore is not afraid of them.

Awesome It will add to your story the fact that the flowers she's holding are flowers for sundew plant, another carnivorous plant.

Naturally, we all must die. But what befalls the Angel when death is what she brings?

In time everything changes, or at least it should. Her sadness lies in the truth. The cold truth, is that death always remains, just along the edges of twilight. Though unbeknownst to her there is hope.
Death gives way to life. Death can only rip away so much leaving the rest to grow and cling to life just as death would fester.

She waits to be completely overcome with the life that is killing her so that there might only be her the light in her heart left. After being devoured and taken by the roots that bound her, her heart ans soul will be free to find thier own form.

Freedom is not harvested but gained through seasons or sacrifice. She knows her time comes to bid fairwell to the children of her flesh. Her life is not her own, it belongs to them. She feeds them and waters them with her tears.

Until she breathes her last breath, this flesh will claim her, in pain and understanding she awaits her freedom, in Death yes but also in a greater cycle of life.

Wow, when I first looked at it, I thought - oh, lookie, a pretty girl in the forest! And then I noticed all the not-so-friendly plants around her, and went: "Oh." XD

What I see in this image is a depiction of someone who is beautiful - but also dangerous, yet this aspect is hidden by their beauty, which is so tempting that those around her are either unaware of the danger, or choose to ignore it because of her beauty. Kinda like femme fatale effect.

Or, if you want a more religious analysis, it is like being tempted by the devil - he offers you all kinds of gifts and awards, and wants nothing in return - just your soul. XD

A very pretty painting. I guess I'll give it a go too:
The girl fell in love with a boy that lived in her town. Neither were royalty, the girl was just wealthy enough to have a good living, the man on the other hand was a hard working lumberjack. Both were healthy yet could not see, the girl was blinded by love, the man - by his determination to have a better, wealthier life. After weeks of silent, agonizing watching him go work in the early hours and come back in the evening she followed him into the jungle to tell him her feeling. She waited until they had arrived at his current working spot, the top of a tall and abrupt yet picturesque hill. Awed by her surroundings, she was spirited to reveal her feelings to the worker. She carefully plucked a bouquet of the beautifulest flowers and went up to him. The man was surprised to see that someone had followed him and he was anxious to find out the cause. The girl revealed her feelings to him and asked him to accept the flowers. The man declined, he had already grown fond of a woman in their town. Teary eyed the girl tried to force the man to take her flowers, she was so unwilling to accept a "no" from him that in her love frenzy she pushed him down the hill. Shocked, she followed him down only to find his lifeless remains lying in a field of Venus Fly Traps. she went up to the body, the bouquet still in her hands and sat down next to him. His face was twisted with a gaze of anger, looking with a blank stare towards the girl. She stayed next to him for days, dreaming of their life together, slowly growing into the Venus fly traps that had already consumed the mans body and wrath. She still sits there, luring the unknowing into their unpleasant demise.
