Freya Crescent from Final Fantasy IXPretty much the cutest rat-girl out there, and also one of my all-time Final fantasy favs ^^ too bad she never had her story really fleshed out in FFIX :<
I just had to draw her one of these days, and I think I did a good job ^^
By the way, she doesn't really get this kind of spear in the game, I just designed her a new demonic one to suit my art-style better >3

Freya is awesome. She was one of my favorite characters in FFIX. Zidane was also cool, and I'm probably the only person in the world who thinks Kuja was a better bad guy than Sephiroth... But IX was my favorite Final Fantasy. And Freya deserved more story...

Yes, even though FF IX was overflowing with awesome characters, Freya managed to stand out ^^ though I also liked Amarant/Salamander and Vivi a lot, so I'm gonna draw 'em too eventually ^^
And I don't see much difference between Sephiroth and Kuja, both had similar stories, yet were awesome in their own rights, so I never thought either one to be more awesome than the other. Though still, Kefka's waaaay better than both of them IMO
As for Freya's story... well, I read the deleted scenario parts from FFVII-IX, and you'd be really surprised how much was cut to finish these games on time, Freya's story included (as well as Amarant's). Heck, at least Freya remained playable... Mikoto and Erin were meant to be playable characters, yet were cut out and became NPCs... (a bunch of Summons were also cut out, including Ultros, who would be my fav (since he's my fav boss ever >3).
Hehehe, and yeah, FFIX is one of my favourite parts to tied with FFVI and FFTactics (the PSX one).

Mikoto was playable? I wish they'd kept that. She was neat, too. Where did you find this deleted scenario stuff? I am curious and obsessive.
And I like Kuja over Sephiroth mostly because Kuja talked a lot, and from that you could see his madness more clearly. Sephiroth rarely said anything, really. Not a lot of personality. Both are still cool, though.

LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-20 22:31:48 +0000 UTC]
She was meant to be playable, but got cut out long before the game was finished. She was supposed to be a Red Mage type of character (and Erin's skills were supposed to be similar to Edgar's from FFVI).
And the info was leaked by some ex-Square employees, who got fired when Square fused with Enix. They wanted to get some cash, so they started selling such stuff as deleted scenario parts from various games (you wouldn't believe how much some fans paid for that stuff). So as you see, it was quite a long time ago. But if you search on some fan-sites or message boards, you should still be able to find it.
And well, both Kefka and even Ultros own both Kuja and Sephy when it comes to personality. If you haven't played FFVI, you should really give it a try ^^

I haven't played beyond the beginning yet, but Kefka looks totally boss, and I do plan on finishing it. And that's an interesting story about how the information was leaked. I feel like the company has declined a good bit since merging with Enix... not that I have a problem with Enix's old stuff. They just don't make Square games like they used to.

LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-21 09:18:36 +0000 UTC]
Actually, it's Square alone that goes downhill... it just looks like they're "whoring out" their newer games... but long story short, because Squaresoft and Enix had major financial problems, they decided to merge, but had to fire quite a lot of their employees, and after the Square guys pretty much butchered and screwed Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria (the first VP is THE best game I ever played, and if you haven';t played it yet, then either try out the original PSX game, or the PSP remake Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth, hehe, and believe me, I could really go on for hours what makes this game unique and awesome ), which was nothing like the original game, and all the things that made the first part unique were thrown out, and replaced by some cheap and unneeded drama... so the Enix guys got pissed, and noe Square makes their titles alone, and Enix makes their titles alone. So if you want to blame someone for the poor level of recent Square games, it's entirely Square's fault.

I see.... That's pretty interesting. I've heard really good things about the original Valkyrie Profile. I wish I had the money (and the time) to get into all these older rpgs or a computer with the specs to emulate them. But yeah, thanks for the information. Now I know that the only to blame for Square's sad decline is Square itself.

LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-22 08:00:54 +0000 UTC]
Well, VP does work very well on ePSXe, and it works on pretty much all computers nowdays, so I think you should give it a try ^^
And well, the Enix guys do their own games like the Dragon Quest series or the awesome Radiata Stories (which is hard as hell to get...), and then there's Square who does their FF series, and duds like Dissidia (which didn't sell all that well, most people who play it and praise it play on a pirated copy). Just compare how these games differ, and you'll see who's at fault here...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NephilV In reply to LukeTheRipper [2011-07-23 05:46:39 +0000 UTC]
I've heard really good things about Radiata Stories. And yeah, Dissidia was not very impressive. I played a friend's pirated copy, and yeah, he wouldn't have bought and neither would I if I had a PSP. It had nice animation, and it was cool to see the characters in greater detail, but not a good game. I also wish they would stop screwing around with Kingdom Hearts side-stories and spin-offs and just make KH3 before the fans give up.
Two of my other favorite RPG's are the Xenosaga series and Legend of Dragoon. I also lived Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, and Star Ocean 3. For modern RPGs, which sadly aren't often as good as the older ones, I like Mass Effect, Fallout 3/New Vegas, and Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion.

LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-23 14:12:39 +0000 UTC]
That's because Radiata Stories is one of the best RPGs that PS2 has to offer ^^
Though it's a shame, that most of the best ones never leaft Japan, games such as Namco X Capcom, Dragon Shadow Spell or Sacred Blaze werw really awesome, but the Jap. only thing was why they were never all that popular. But at least Radiata Stories and Eternal Poison were awesome and were released in America ^^
And as for KH3... well, I doubt there will ever be one... you see, when SquareEnix had some major financial problems, Disney asked Capcom, their long time friends (ever since Capcom did quite a lot of Disney games back in the days), to make a crossover with Square, so that Square can make more games with their characters... yet Square, beinh the divas they are, were displeased that Capcom would be in charge of the project, not them (well duuuuh, it's not liek Square ever did a true crossover, neither a real fighting game...), and they declined the offer... so Disney is pretty pissed off at them at the moment (and they get quite a lot of money from Capcom for the Marvel license), so unless uncle Disney takes a liking to Square again, they can't make a real KH game, just the side-stories and spin-offs...
And well, I dunno if you ave a PS3 or X360, but if you want a really awesome RPG, then get Eternal Sonata or White Knight Hronicles (though the PS3 version of Eternal Sonata is highly upgraded when compared to the X360 one), and since you like games like Chrono Cross or Final Fantays, you'll definitely like Eternal Sonata ^^

NephilV In reply to LukeTheRipper [2011-07-24 02:31:54 +0000 UTC]
I've played Eternal Sonata! My friend has it. I did co-op with him for the first few hours of the game, and I plan on borrowing it from him sometime so I can finish it. I only have a 360, though. And that sucks about Kingdom Hearts, but if Square wants to act like it's as big and respected as it used to be, even when it's not, then that's their own fault. I've never heard of White Knight Chronicles, though. I'll look into it when I can. This RPG discussion has been pretty cool. Another game I used to play was Skies of Arcadia, the remake on the Game Cube. And Paper Mario Thousand Year Door is a pretty solid game as well.

LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-24 20:29:03 +0000 UTC]
Well, for PS3, Eternal Sonata got 2 new playable characters (Serenade and Crescendo), as well as some bonus dungeons and items. But still, the X360 is awesome as well >3
And yeah, Square desperately tries to maintain their status as a video game guru but it will be hard without some of their more iconic former employees like Nobuo Uematsu, and it will be even harder if they won't move their asses and do a decent game... all the money they get for selling their classic PSX games on PSN won't save 'em for long...
And I'm not sure if White Knight Chronicles isn't PS3 only... you'd better check that up... but it's still one truly kickass RPG ^^
And lol, the Gamecube remake of SoA really sucked actually... that's why the PS2 remake was cancelled... though the Dreamcast version was nothing short of awesome, and it really was one of the best RPGs I ever played ^^
Hehe, and well, being a maniac of 2D fighting games and RPGs, I could go reaaaaally long about my favourite titles so for now, at least try to play Valkyrie Profile 1, if you like a truly awesome game, then you'll surely like this one.

Censorship, A LOT of censorship. All cigarettes were removed, all females had their clothes modified to be less revealing, shops sold juice instead of alcohol, and vulgar language was removed as well. Just check here - [link]
Even though the remake had a lot of bonus features, like new weapons, lots of new bosses (the bounty system), and other stuff, but with all the censorship running around, this game just doesn't feel the same...

NephilV In reply to LukeTheRipper [2011-07-26 02:13:50 +0000 UTC]
NO! That's what happened to the English release of Xenosaga. Some of the censorship makes a few scenes NOT EVEN MAKE SENSE, because the characters are physically acknowledging blood that WAS CENSORED AWAY and it'd be really confusing if you didn't realize it. But that sucks. I'm sad I missed out... I thought the game seemed a bit more mature than it was letting on...
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LukeTheRipper In reply to NephilV [2011-07-26 07:40:46 +0000 UTC]
Hehehe, you think that is was only this one game? You'd be surprised how many games were badly censored or altered in the English version
For instance, the battle against Atma Weapon (called "Great Behemoth" in the Jap. version by the way) in FFVI, and the battle against Safer Sephiroth in FFVII were notably easier in the American and PAL release, than in the Jap. version...
Also, Suikoden 1 got some heavy censorship, most of the times it was in the most idiotic moments... and it was pretty much just replacing one word with another without the slightest care if it would ruin the script, most notably, when they changed all words like liquor, alcohol or even beer into "tea" which made most sentences pretty stupid ("I've got a variety of tea in my bar, but if shouldn't interest you because you're too young to drink it.").

Ah, yeah, I meant the first female FF dragoon |D
And her Trance was actually one of the best, attacking all enemies while being well beyond their reach for a few turns is rather useful I'd say ^^ unless you had her on a low level and with a poor weapon.

LionheartXIII In reply to LukeTheRipper [2011-07-21 16:35:48 +0000 UTC]
Well the reason why I said it wasnt soo good was because, it dose not hit as hard as Regular jump and its more AOE based then Single enemy based, I stopped usin Freya as soon as I got Stiners Ultma Weapon
WORTH IT Beatrix FTW lol
Its kinda werid how all my favorite characters in Final Fantasy are the ones that are diffrent from the typical classes, Example Rydia: Summon+Black Magic, How many summoners know Black Magic? None X3
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
LukeTheRipper In reply to LionheartXIII [2011-07-21 20:49:38 +0000 UTC]
When attacking a single enemy, it does as much damage as always, when attacking multiple enemies, it does less damage, because it's divided. It's pretty much the same as the difference between using a spell on a single enemy, and using the same spell on multiple enemies.
Besides, dunno if you've done your homework, but EVERY Trance is a give and take. For example, Garnet, Vivi and Eiko get those double spell thingies, or powered-up summons, and they get a high boost to their Magic Attack and Magic Defense stats, yet their Defense stat gets cute veeeery badly, so they can die even easier than before...
The most unique one is Quina... just like normally it's fork weapons deal random damage, whe it goes into Trance, all of it's stats are randomly cut or boosted
And as far as uniqueness goes, show me any dragoon/lancer who learns any other skills than Jump, other than Freya >3 (of course, excluding the FFV/FFTactics characters who could have skills from 2 classes at once, or the materia and GF thingies from FFVII/VIII).

Well Kain leanrs White Magic in AY
And Technicly Kimari from 10 knows Blue Magic
and....thats really it O.o....
And Realy thats what happens in Trance O.o...Well Either Way the Tance System Sucked XP
I prefer the Overdrive System from 10 or the Limate Break from 8
Quina Sucks as a Bluemage X(
I almost never used "IT"

LukeTheRipper In reply to LionheartXIII [2011-07-22 07:54:31 +0000 UTC]
Technically, that thing is just as uncanon for the fans as FFX-2 and FFVII: CC and DOC, lol, Square pretty much just sucks at making sequels... and technically, Kimahri is a Blue Mage with the jump skill, and not a Dragon with blue magic
And well, all FFs from FFX onwards are pure crap IMO, so you should pretty much guess what I feel about Trance vs. Overdrive, ne?
And Trance was actually a more thought out system than most. It was VERY strategical, as you had to change your strategy depending on the Tranced person and the enemy you face. The Limits in FFVIII were pretty much just bonus attacks for characters with low health, and the Limits themselves worked the same way as the normal, special skills from FFVI.
And as for Quina, it's actually not that bad, once you get some of the better skills, it's a real powerhouse. And while the normal, fork damage are random, the blue magic skills damage aren't
