Description This is my new character Remeroth Banneroth.

Also, I have to thank a million here. I thought I lost this image when I got some of my bloody goo on the face, but with the help of some of her acrylic ink and a little experimentation we figured it out! It isn't exactly the same as before but it's certainly workable, and the mistake isn't noticeable unless you've really seen it before hand. :3

Awww, yeah it would be really great to work on it some more. Β The lore and characters have certainly been flushed out much more since I've made this, or at least, I have a lot of theories and ideas on the matter, but we'll see where it goes in the end. Β I'm not sure if I'll get to it any time soon since I've been so lousy about working on it with fulltime work and school and such, but my friend (riftryu) has considered revamping her very lemury story sometime soon, and I've considered contributing ideas and characters to her works. Β I'd still retain the ability to use them for my story in entirely different ways, but I like the idea of these guys getting some use in the near future.

I still wish you'd update you stories and characters too! Β Sweeney is a kick as always, but, maybe it's the extreme levels of nostalgia talking, but Armistice is still one of my all time favorite things ever, and something you are uniquely qualified for producing, :#3

Anyways, I actually find myself thinking about you not so uncommonly, and I hope everything is going well for you. Β Merry Christmas and may all your dreams come true! <3

Sounds good to me! Yes, I think there's a certain appreciation for older projects when they turn around again. And I remember everything you told me about this. I had hoped to see more of it sometime.

Armarniss... you're right, it's creeping back into my thoughts for sure!

And I you. Never forget a friend, even if you don't talk for a while. The internet can be a cold place in that way.

Awww, I'm really flattered you remembered what I've told you about these characters. Β Lets just hope it's because you liked it, and not because of some deep seeded hatred for its very existence!

I was more than pleasantly surprised to see some Lance and Yolas on my tumblr dash you have NO IDEA. Β I really loved their human looks, too, but you expressed some kinda worries on whether they would be anthro or not. Β For that, I can't really answer it too deeply.
I think it really depends on the style you are going for in the end. Β In some cases the animal aspects really lend themselves to the story (such as with Blacksad) where you can learn a lot about them just because they are what they are (Lance might be quick, daring, and clever; Yolas cheeky and playful; etc.), which maybe perfect for some characters, but then you kind of have to figure out how this is gonna work on a grand scale with all the creatures of the world.
Conversely, humans, as are often described, are bland and unexceptional, born to be adapters/conquerors of their environments and they are really limitless in their presentation, and really only limited by the cultures they come from (which seems to fit the interest you have in history and cultures). Β That may very well be exceptional for the story you are trying to get into.
The trickier option would be to try to blend the two, which is what I'm attempting to do a bit in Rem's story, but I'll be the first to admit that it only really works because of the setting. It's based on the 100+ lemur species on an island that kinda evolved independent of the rest of the world (like Madagascar) and the whole thing might be infinitely more difficult if I turned the story international somehow. Β I will introduce some foreigner species but it's extremely rare, and the culture here mostly mirrors isolationist, feudal societies like China and Japan; and also native american influences.

Whooo. Β Sorry about that. Β Obviously, world building is interesting to me, and I dunno if any of that is food for thought, but lord howdy would I love to see what you come up with in the future for your personal projects! Β I eat that stuff up.

Anyways, yeah, I'm mostly to blame for the lack of real communication here I'm sure. Β We've all been busy but I really feel like I should initiate more with people, especially online. Β I don't think the internet is invariably a cold place, but it does take a little extra effort to stay connected. Β Lets try and bounce some more ideas and stuff off each other this coming year. Β I'll try to keep you clued into the kinds of things I'm working on artistically as well.

Ha ha! How could I possibly hate your work? That's such an insane notion. I love those lemurs and I'm glad to hear that it will be continuing in one form or another.

I can always count on you to tell it how it is. The information you provided is indeed food for thought! I'm still not sure how Armarniss is going to go... I'm not sure if I'll even have time for it this year. Since I sent you my last message, things have changed and I'm having to focus on updating a portfolio for possible new employment. That's about 8 years of work to trawl through, so, keeping me busy.

Oh, and you're not to blame at all. It's actually my preference at the moment to move away from DA for a while (hanging around tumblr now). At least until I can figure out what I want to do with this space. I guess I'm making it difficult for everyone to keep in touch, but then again, I get the feeling that many people have already moved away from DA somewhat. Very odd times on the net now!

Yeah, he's my own creation. I used to have a bit of background on him before I kinda removed that information from the description.

Basically, he's part of a series that will probably be a graphic novel sometime in the future, but for now I'm kinda working on a written novel about a totally different story. This guy's story is still very much in the concept phases.

Anyways, thank you for the compliments.

Great use of negative space! Not only is the drawing and textures wonderful as always, the unique composition just really pulls you in!! Great Story, Charater and all the s-w-eeeeeeeeeet details are just icing on the cake!!!!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupinator In reply to stephanielynn [2009-02-07 17:40:30 +0000 UTC]

I think it had a much more powerful composition in real life with the negative space, becuase I was a nub with my scanner and it auto crops images. Only recently have I figured out how to fix that.

But yeah, the story really took off after this too. I don't have many characters and it feels good to have another character to gather inspiration off of.

I'm trying to think of a word for this, and so far all I can think of is 'breath-taking'

The composition and the detail in this piece is fantastic! But what really does it for me is that expression of concentration upon lemur's face.

It's a good tactic really... when you have a story to work off it's easier to get inspired and create an inspiring image. I think that's why fanfics are so popular... there is a foundation to grow your creativity off of. :>

chryssil In reply to Lupinator [2008-09-20 18:37:41 +0000 UTC]

Agreed! It's usually easier to expand on existing characters, you can use less brain cells

Lupinator In reply to chryssil [2008-09-20 18:43:09 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha... no kidding.

Similarly, I've shaded over other people's line art before... and I tell you, it's almost too comfortable to work with, not having to worry about composition and just focusing on lighting and all that... It just makes things so relaxed. :>

If there's a mistake there, I don't see it. The pencil almost looks like paint, while still being . . . pencilly. [That's a good thing, btw] It's so soft, and . . . dude. Epic.

I can't come up with a comment intelligent enough. I'm sorry. There aren't enough words for . . . epic.

Scream-Till-It-Hurts [2008-09-20 11:26:03 +0000 UTC]

Amazing textures and shading... I cannot help but envy you. Spot on anatomy aswell, his left hand is, as far as I can tell, perfectly muscled. It just stands out in my eyes... no ideas why.

Interesting background story too, revenge stories have got to be one of my favourites. I also love how the spirits will only help him with certain tasks. It's a very good catch, probably one of the best ones I've seen for this type of story... much better than them just destroying everything that stands in the way, however big or small.

It's good to see your efforts did not go to waste after all, getting muck on the page is such a burden... but you can't even notice a thing with this piece ^_^.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Lupinator In reply to Scream-Till-It-Hurts [2008-09-20 14:53:16 +0000 UTC]

I have to admit that I use my own anatomy as a good guide, I held my hand like that for a while and eventually worked it out... but I HAAATE hands... so I need to use refs if I want it to be draw at all near the same standard as the rest of my artwork. :>

It's a little cliche, his story, and ultimately, it's not entirely revenge as much as he wants to put his tribe's spirits at peace. He actaully, of all my main characters I've ever created, is the closest character I have to a legitimately good guy... just yanno... he has every right to be pissed off. His wife and newly born child were one of the victims here too, and in reality, those are the ones he wants to see at peace the most. So, it's a mix of revenge and compassion.

But yeah, I'm really happy I got this fixed and saw it into completion. :>
