Description
Holes had to be made on the hat to allow his ears to poke through. Poor hat.I do not own Lucario or Riolu, as well as Professor Layton or Luke.
...
Hmm? Still here? Were you perhaps... expecting a puzzle? Well, okay! Here's a crummy puzzle for you!
No. 001
Picarats: 5
After the burglary last night, five suspects have been apprehended. They have given their statements, and interestingly, they shared their opinions on their fellow suspects as well.
Below are their statements:
P: S is definitely telling the truth.
Q: T is not a liar.
R: Both P and I are trustworthy. Not Q though, he lies.
S: T is the most despicable liar I have ever known.
T: Both R and I are telling the truth here -- we're innocent.
Two of them were lying in their statements, because I said so. The liars are the criminals we're looking for. The question is: which two?
(I bear no responsibilities for any errors in the riddle. I made it for an assignment about two years ago... nothing much, but hey, it's only worth 5 picarats.)

Hawk is right on the money. I remember seeing this a while ago, and I was recently looking on Amazon and I seen that Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney is currently available for pre-order.

I played Professor Layton vs Ace Attorney, and just finished it about a month ago. I'm a fan of both series, but to be honest... I didn't like the game very much. The Phoenix Wright portions felt overly-simplified to the point where I just had to watch for who is reacting to a particular testimony. Plus, that plot twist... it felt... well, I don't know what to think of it. I was quite disappointed, to be frank.
Have you played it?

Swing and a miss, huh? Nah, I haven't played it but I have thought about getting a 3DS to try it, and many other games out.

Nooo the hat! /falls to knees
That aside, that's an interesting breed of question. I've heard the best way out is just to trial and error XD And since it's been cracked I won't crack my brains anymore.
Still, I could identify Layton and Riolu straight away XD The picture really brought a smile to my face.
Did you hear they're making a videogame pitting Layton against Pheonix Wright? (I have a vague impression of talking to you about this, but ah well.)

I'm planning to destroy another hat soon, in a comic. But a single picture is hard enough -- making a comic would be exhausting at my current level.
Trial and error is always a good way to figure out answers. The Layton games only penalise you a maximum of three times (IIRC).
Nope, I don't think we've discussed this piece of news before. But yep, I've heard about it. I'm hoping they'll localise it, especially since the 3DS is region-locked and all.

It'd be pretty weird to hear Phoenix's voice, I think. Then again, he has already appeared in a fighting game with some voiceovers.

Well, I love your artworks.
I find the Layton games nice and relaxing. I'm planning to get the latest installment one of these days.

yeah same here, have you heard about the phoenix wright cross over with professor Layton coming out for the 3ds? It looks epic ^^

lupyne In reply to ToaEnemis [2011-11-06 17:52:24 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I have. ^^
It does look great indeed. I never would have thought there would be a crossover between the two. I just hope they localise it. They still haven't brought over the second Investigations (Edgeworth) game. :/

I'm afraid that's not a valid combination (I think). Q and S are giving contradicting statements, so one of them definitely has to be part of the guilty party.
But you know, I think I worded the question poorly. I guess it's because lying here is synonymous to being guilty, which is an odd concept. Sometimes, the more I read the question, the less sense it makes.
Ah well.
Thank you very much for the favourite!

I can't figure it out... Maybe I should try playing Professor Layton and stretching out my brain muscles a bit more... XD
I think Lucario could have managed to stuff his ears into that hat; it seems tall enough. But then, he probably couldn't hear very well. XD

There were some really frustrating puzzles in the games.
And a lot of maths too.
If you're interested to know the answer to this one, it's Q and T.
I think you're right, though I imagine it must be really uncomfortable for Lucario.

dbzespio In reply to lupyne [2011-10-29 13:30:55 +0000 UTC]
Okay, so since T is only half-right, he is lying completely?
Oh man, no wonder I thought it was so hard. XD

lupyne In reply to dbzespio [2011-10-30 14:25:18 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's indeed a bit confusing.
It was a computing class though, and they're always very strict about the difference between 'AND' and 'OR'.

Ashshem [2011-10-28 14:11:49 +0000 UTC]
Q is the only one that ou can deduce, the puzzle is full of paradoxes you have R saying P is true, P says S is true, S says T lies, T says R is true, which would mean that R is a liar, which would mean P is false, Which would mean P is a liar, Which would mean S is a liar, which would mean that T is tealling the truth, which would mean that R is true, so your back where you started
ð: 0 âĐ: 1
lupyne In reply to Ashshem [2011-10-28 16:06:49 +0000 UTC]
Thank you very much!
You are correct.
Q and T is the only possible combination (I hope). P and S could have been another combination if not for what R has claimed.
The trick here is that T claims both himself and R as innocent. R is indeed innocent, but not T, hence the statement is still false.
As an analogy, I would be lying if I said 'O' is both a square and a circle. However, that doesn't mean it can't be one of said shapes. It just cannot be both.
It's not a very intuitive explanation, but that was what we were taught in that particular class. It was a very confusing semester.
I've already forgotten most of what I learned then.

I did submit something about a week ago, but that wasn't anything important.
Hopefully I can be more active online again soon -- the past few months were horrible.
I hope you've been well!
And yes, congratulations -- Q is correct! (By extension, that means T is the second liar)

Haha, thank you very much for the fav! ^^
And don't worry, you got it right. Q is the correct answer, and by extension, that means T is a liar as well.
The trick here: T claimed that both R and himself are innocent... R is indeed innocent, but not T, hence his statement is false anyway.
There was actually a formula for this too:
(p => s) ^ (s => ÂŽt) ^ (q => t) ^ (t => r) ^ (r => (p ^ ÂŽq))
We had to draw a truth table and such. x_x
