"The sun was in my eyes! What do you want me to do, block out the sun? I could do that, but I don't have time right now!"*cough* Okay, *slyeagle 's 2-year old has been watching How to Train Your Dragon obsessively. Small wonder some lines are stuck in my head.
In the spirit of all the snow Vermont now has!
Just a newly designed (thanks to *slyeagle ) Orisian Snow dragon hunting a caribou. And missing. This might get some minor tweaks in the future, as there's still some things I'm not satisfied with. On the other hand, school starts now and my free time goes flying out the window. So this is what you get that proves I'm still alive.
The snow poofs are different intentionally. The caribou is kicking snow up from it's jump, while the Snow just has the poof from initial impact.
I used a bit of flying snow from *altered-humanity 's stock . I also had fun (and likely looked silly) kicking snow around on my way to and from work.
I'm not going to whine about all the things that are wrong, since this started life as a quick doodle over vacation. So no whining. In fact, I'm going to go to bed.

What an awesome picture! The shadows look so realistic it could as well be a photo. Especially the snow looks brilliant. The essence of a cold and bright winter day can be almost touched by hand. Also, it's lovely how you've combined something from our reality with some fantasy elements, and I mean the dragon. The dragon's design is very pretty, the pose and anatomy, too. The only thing that could be improved is the vast white area on the dragon (the top of the wings and tail). They seem a little too plain but some shades would make it look better. Otherwise you've nailed the light source and shadows beautifully. Great work!

Thankee kindly for the feedback and the great comment. I did as you suggested and went back to add some shading to the dragon's back. Initially I had been going for that pure white glare you sometimes get off objects, but I do believe I like it better with the shading present.

anyway, I like it---it looks simplistic, yet it doesn't. I like the shadows and snow colors the most, it gives it a realistic depth

I think you fixed the shadow problem; it looks really good now. The big fix I'd suggest might be put some hills or sommat in the background because we don't feel low-angle enough for just this one snowbank.
I do like the caribou's antler casting a shadow on his face.

I always dig the anatomy of your dragons, Luth ^^ By far you've got one of the most thought-out concepts for them IMO.
The motive is lovely too!

Well, the actual concepts are mostly *slyeagle 's - who designed the Orisian dragons with me and my style in mind. So how much of the anatomy is hers and how much is mine is a little fuzzed up. We'll certainly share the compliment, though!

I really like the eyes and head shape of the dragon. Great job! Maybe you could throw in a little bush or something for variety if you wanted to add something more to the picture.

I had been (and still am) considering adding some grass- like the long tundra stuff, poking out of the snow. 'Cause yeah, I kinda like the plain, but then there's too plain. Y'know?
