This is the alternate version of Lazy Days . I get the feeling that people will probably like this more than the original entry (and I almost submitted this in its stead) but ultimately I decided against using this one for the contest.Congratulations to the Lazy Days winners! I'm very pleased with the results- I'm glad that 3rd placed placed how they did, since I was torn between voting for them and another entry.
I really pushed myself to do quite a bit of new things for myself with this picture. I'm not very comfortable with drawing Dedede, Sword, Blade, Escargon, and Customer Service, so I feel victorious over including them. I also drew a lens flare effect for the first time. Little by little I'm getting closer to my dreams
...I'm surprised nobody chimed in about Sword and Blade holding hands. I've casually shipped these two for years now but never drew a single piece of fan art for the two of them

Looks very nice. I still prefer the bold contrast of the original, the blue sky and orangey sand. But it does give it a relaxed feeling, like the sun is setting on a long fun day in the sun.

Neat, looks like a vintage photograph! I like how the colours blend well with each other, even on the some of the oddly-coloured characters (cs, for one). Though, ultimately, I would've submitted the one you did end up submitting if only because it looked more happy, fun, and.. summer-like. X) This one looks a little more sombre because of, again, the vintage-like look of it; less "lazy, summer days" and more "memories of days gone by", if that makes sense. Totally not a bad thing, though, just fits the theme more.
But uh anyway! Nice job on this, you've got a good sense of colour theory. (=

That's actually one of the biggest reasons why I didn't choose to submit this one (the other being that I wasn't completely satisfied with the saturation/contrast of some of the characters here) You actually nailed it right on the head! I was worried someone would say it didn't fit the theme well enough... and I figured that the vibrant colors were more suited for the contest anyways.
Hehe thank you- I've been trying to work more with colors/palettes since my art style is all over the place at the moment so everything's very experimental
I'm not sure why I love the idea of their happy memories being preserved via photograph, though it makes me think about revisiting the idea of writing a little HNK fanfic. Or rewriting one that I wrote about 8 years ago xD Maybe I just like stuff like that because it's all fanfic fuel.

I feel the same way with my art style being all over the place too; doesn't help that I've been switching back and forth between digital & traditional, nor the fact that I've been struggling to learn a new program.
I kinda like that idea too! It's very nostalgic. I, myself, feel a compulsive need to take pictures everywhere I go (or mostly new places), just to keep that happy memory alive. And I agree that'd make for an interesting fanfic; you should just go for it, I mean what do you got to lose? x)

This does look really neat! I like the bright blue colors in the original contest entry, but this version is pretty cool, too!
Funny you mention Sword and Blade holding hands (as the only ship present that's not in that ocean)...I hadn't noticed that earlier, but now that I do, it's another great detail that makes me like this piece even more c:
