Butterflies and moths are some of my fave subjects, but I always lose track of them all, all my favorites. So last night I sat down, found a huge scientific collection and went through the entire thing, saving images and names of all my favorites.The Blue Morpho is always a classic, although not one of my favorites (try the Large Tolype, or almost any of the Saturniidae family). That blue though. <3
I definitely plan on doing more of these as soon as I can. Suggestions are welcome!
Acrylics and a bit of coloured pencil on watercolour paper, 11"x14".

I empathize.
The only thing better than a bright and beautiful butterfly is a more subtle and exceedingly fluffy version.
This is quite nearly perfect all the same. I absolutely adore it!

How did you plash the paint without getting it on the butterfly?

I masked the butterfly off with painter's tape, then went to town with the paint.

I can never quite get my head around how beautiful your work is, love. Even the splatters, which imo often look messy when some people do them, look bold and refined.
But this wings...maaaan. They've such a gorgeous sheen to them. And the vein details too. Wow. ;_;
