My grandmother told me a long time ago that it was a druid tradition to carve the skulls of their elders (don't know if it is true or not, that's just what she told me). The idea always stuck with me, so when she passed away I did this piece as a memorial to her. It's a bit morbid, I know, but what do you expect from an Irish family?
