Description
Some of you might remember me recoloring the original lineart to Headmasters Issue #01 sometime ago. Well,. that same friend who bought the original line art to that awesome issue went ahead and bought himself the REST of the Headmasters Miniseries original cover art. And because he liked the job I did on the first one, he wanted to know if I would color these too. (Answer: Yes.) I'm gonna take my time on them all. (So I don't know when they'll get done.)I decided to keep the green skinned Nebulans like I did on the original. I'll probably go with the "burning red sky" for all the covers as well.
For comparison's sake to the original printing of the issue from 24 years ago, you can refer to the Wiki link here: [link]
And the first issue colors can be found here: [link]
I had a lot of fun with this one too, and I hope you like it as well.
Artwork by Frank Springer, and I assume Ian Akin and Brian Garvey. Colors by me!

This is awesome stuff! All the old Marvel US TF material needs recolored like this.

I have to say, I really like your colours better. They kept things pretty basic back in those days and it really dragged down the line art, at least by comparison to modern work.

Love the green nebulans, and it's not just because I'm a fan of the old cartoon , but they look immediately alien this way.

I love how modern coloring technology can make old art like this Not Terrible Looking anymore!

I never thought the art was outright bad in the older books, but they certainly needed some refinement, and the coloring was rushed to say the least. But despite all that, I never once had any problems telling who was who...
...Which is more than I can say about some TF artists today.
Recently, Simon Furman and Andrew Wildman has expressed interest in continuing the old Marvel TF series with Issue #81. I got to tell you... I would color that book for fucking free.

Well it wasn't the worst art, but let's face it, Marvel didn't spare any of their best artists on the series. (And, come on... Delbo sucked.)
I've seen the movement and the online petition for a Marvel 81. Honesltly I feel apathetic towards it. I like the Marvel 'verse ended. And I would prefer to see Furman help get IDW's main continuity back in order. Nevertheless, it could be a fun series.

Normally, I would agree... But at this point in time, I've all but given up on the IDW universe. I don't think it's salvageable. When I can count the good stories on one hand, there's a problem. (By the way, Nick Roche worked on them all...)
It's honestly, a story I've wanted to see continued even when Dreamwave had the license. Could it suck? Yeah, there's a real risk. But at least I'd be spared the "majesty" that is Drift.

Don't be too sure, I'm sure IDW would shoehorn their Poochie in.
What about Spotlight Wheelie? Escalation? Maximum Dinobots (or what it could have been if IDW hadn't forced Furman to truncate everything)?

Never read Spotlight Wheelie, though have heard good things about it. Escalation... Something felt off about it. I can't put my finger on it, and the same went for Maximum Dinobots. The problem is the direction the IDW universe has taken. I don't like it, I'm not a fan of it... And I'm not too sure it can be fixed.

SP:Wheelie is awesome.
Granted Escalation and Max Dinos were far from perfect, but they were still entertaining in their own rights. Oh! How about Stormbringer?

I wasn't that hip on Stormbringer, but it has nothing to do with the comic itself. That's a rant I'll get into on another day.
But here's the thing. Early stories like Escalation and Stormbringer, they were under Furman's watch and guidance, and thus it was leading up to something. All his stories were. But a little after Escalation, it started to veer off toward that annoying "change for the sake of change" that too many people do to long standing franchises. But it was never to the point of irritation. I wasn't fond of the story Furman was doing, but you know... I didn't hate it either. It's like Ultimate Spider-Man. I understand it has a large following and it's well deserved. Just wasn't my thing. I didn't wish for a reboot or new company to take over or anything, and I'm glad people liked it. And there was many elements created in his run I did really like. I'm glad it was going strong, but it just wasn't the Transformers story I was looking for. (And honestly, I can do without yet ANOTHER secret human organization bent on using he Transformers as weapons. We've had this story already.) The thing is though, is WAS a singular vision that wasn't too screwed up, and even if I didn't like it... I was still buying it, so I didn't hate it too badly, right?
But no matter what great plans he had, they all went belly side up when All Hail Megatron came into play. Now, I had avoided AHM for a while. I heard too much bad about it, but I ended up buying a bunch of trade paperbacks one day out of boredom, because I wanted something to read, and I was so pissed by the sheer disregard that was given to Furman's story development. (The Hunter and Sunstreaker one reeeeeeeally pops out in my head.) And it was such a clusterfuck, they had to bring a bunch of writers in just to fix that fuck-up, and in the process of fixing said fuck-up... They fucked it up worse. And now the editor says we readers are obsessed about continuity and that it doesn't matter. Bullshit it doesn't matter! If I'm spending that much money on your fucking books, you better get off your ass and do some actual EDITING to make sure the stories actually line up! Christ, Dreamwave made more sense. It was insipid, but it made sense. (What the hell. I don't think I was ever going to work for IDW anyway.)
From the overly political stories running in the ongoing, to the inabilities to decide what the characters are going to look like, to even the blatant misuse of characterization... Jazz is killing humans, no one knows what's going on with Grimlock, Megatron who craved the Matrix all this time now just shoots it like it's meaningless, and don't get me started on what they did to poor Rodimus and Ironhide. They can make all the claims they want that "we got big plans for them all!" Bullshit. I've seen this game before. We all have. They're making it all up as they go, and hoping no one will notice. At this point in time, I have lost all interest in the IDW G1 universe. I just don't think it's fixable.
If Furman wants to continue a universe that I KNOW was fine... I'm all for it. I'm aware that the editorialism at IDW may step in and fuck it all up again, but at least there's actually HOPE that they won't.
I'm for it, just so I can actually have a Transformers comic that doesn't give me the runs.

Hmm, my sentiments exactly, except that I was enjoying Furman's run (and this is why we started the fancomic prequel).

I kidna liked Furman's changes attitude. Don't get me wrong, I loved what Dreamwave was trying to do - create a G1 that synced up perfectly with Beast Wars - and I was sad to see it go. But Furman's vision for a more serious, renovated G1 was also entertaining and interesting in a completely different matter.
But I am in absolute, 100% agreement with you from everything about All Hail Megatron onward. Who do you think added all those incriminating quotations to Andy Schmidt's wiki page? *points at self* I'm pretty sure Schmidt hates me now. And I'm kinda proud of that...
