Description
Lucky enough to be nearly in the path of totality. We made the short drive into the path of totality and it was a terrific experience. For us totality lasted about a minute, a little farther south they got 2 minutes but the traffic would have been much worse.
This is a blend of several exposures during totality. You can make out the structure of the corona that highlights the magnetic fields around the sun, plumes and loops.
In the bottom left is Mercury
The temperature got cold and it got very dark. All around the horizon it looked like sunset with a red glow.
I got 380 photos, will post a few more as I slowly go through them

Thanks for providing a picture that looks just like I remembered. I was hoping I would find some great pictures as I could not have taken any myself.

I went to Wyoming instead.
Apoceclipse Now I wrote some of my reflections on this event as I awaited the arrival of totality 20 km east of the ghost town of Lost Cabin, Wyoming on the morning of August 21, 2017.
I was reminded of the coming eclipse two years in advance from an article in “Astronomy” magazine. Many years earlier I had reviewed the almanac of future eclipses on the “Red Shift” astronomical software package so I was vaguely aware of the date. August 2017 seemed a long way off in the future back in 2001.
I travel to Wyoming every summer to conduct paleontological fieldwork so I had intended to drive up to the path of the eclipse on the way back from my study area in southwest Wyoming. Unfortunately, my tentative schedule got overruled by the requirements of others. A colleague from one university had to be in Wyoming in June because he had obligations to be elsewhere on the planet in August. Another paleontologist with whom I work had firm commitments for July. As a result,

Can't believe you captured mercury. Good thing you mentioned it or else I would have thought it was dirt on my monitor, lol. Fantastic capture overall!

I was in Sumter County, South Carolina to watch the eclipse... what an awesome sight! I didn't notice it getting colder though but I did hear crickets starting to chirp about a minute before totality, and where I was, the sky turned a deep dark blue.

This was an awesome experience, i'm glad I got to witness it. Such an amazing thing, that you can see these awesome pictures of, but nothing compares to experiencing it in person.
Everything got more quiet when it was dark, but there were some crows nearby that started squawking as soon as the sun was completely covered.
I went to somebody's house in Dallas, OR. Where were you at?

We got to see part of it, like 90% totality? it didn't get night dark, but it got cold and the crescent rotated to the top, it was super neat
