Description Finally finished with this monster, haha. The WIP has just been collecting dust on my desktop forever. This is Muddy the basset hound, my fursona. She's gotten a ref almost every year but I feel like she's getting closer and closer to how I want her to be.

Anyway, you know how this works.

Additional notes:

- Full anthro is the default form for Muddy although feral and chibi styles are always welcome.
- Muddy's wardrobe is... not anything too special. She has zero fashion sense and likes to just throw on clean and comfortable clothes. Lots of neutral tones for hoodies/pants/etc but you can throw on a bandana of any color to complete an outfit. She likes t-shirts with words (and dog humor!), jokes and puns so feel free to make up your own. Collar is often worn, especially in public where it's required.
- Spots are completely assorted so the size and number doesn't matter, as long as they have the same general placement.
- Muddy is part human, part dog. Her brain leans more heavily on the human side. That being said, when she finds herself "dogging out" (displaying canine behaviours) she may become embarrassed or apologetic.
- She was named for the mud splotch pattern on her back. Whether related or not, Muddy has always felt a strong connection with nature for as far back as she can remember.
- She's a little self-conscious about the size of her ears but not the extent that she used to be. The ears can be used for many practical purposes including a scarf in the winter and a blanket for a friend.

I love Muddy as a character so much, she's full of personality and her design is lovely! I love those ears and any way you draw her!

Thanks! You seem a person of good taste yourself. I tried to go kind of generic with her “likes” since I have way too many specifications but I’m way into philosophy and I love astronomy too. Recently I’ve been really into a book genre that I can only describe as “philosophical science fiction” as the themes and ideas really resonate with me.

D’ Awwwwwwww, Muddy looks so good, there!
Does she have a tendency to trip on those ears, similar to Dumbo?

I remember seeing a Comic, where you claim she is a reverse furry...I guess, one could call that a skinny, Maybe?

May I ask, does her Story some what differ in Ferl form?

She does look adorible, though, and it is a good Ref!

Awesome Ref, Growlie!
Looking forward to seeing more from you! *Hugs*

Oh, for sure! The anthro form has long enough legs to keep the ears from dragging on the floor but in any other form, it’s a constant issue.

I kind of prefer “personas” or “persons”. Muddy has a lot of identity issues because she’s neither full dog nor full human - just sort of an in-between. But I imagine she has an idea of what she would look like as a human and it probably looks a lot like me if I’m honest. x’D

Yeah, feral form is different for certain because that’s a 100% pure doge Muddy. She still romanticizes human culture and is fascinated by them but is not part human herself. I think the feral form is going to be much more “dog” in personality too. She’s kind of a stereotypical basset hound - likes long walks but gets tired easily because of those short legs... and loves naps!

Thank you! I’m just glad this one and Maxi’s ref are done to be honest. I don’t particularly like doing reference sheets but it feels super good to have them done and available.

I now see her wrapping her ears up, about her head, like when you see some people after having some of their teeth taken, You Know the type I mean?
Though, you do post on the Ref, she can use it as a Scarf, Eh?

I am sure, she would have Friends, to help her with the issues she may have though, Eh!? *Hugs*
Here be a question; In the Anthro Form of her, what is the World like?
You claim she be Half Human, so does that mean one of her Parents would be a Human, and I assume their other Parent would be an Anthro Canine, too?
Does this also have some affects on her, out side of Identity Case?
To check, what is said World like, Growlie?

Her Feral Form is adorible, and I think I Know of some Pups who may be friends with her, Eh?
She like to get up to adventures, too?

You do put A LOT of detail in to your Reference Pages.
It does make me want to try a more detailed Ref for my Dalmatians.

Like I post; AWESOME REF, Growlie!
Looking forward to seeing more from you! *Hugs*

Oh my gosh, that comparison is funny. I just got cavities filled yesterday too... I should be wearing my ears like that right now.

The anthro version of Muddy grew up with two human parents but she technically has a set of dog parents too; she has the combined DNA of the human parents and the dog parents, and in a way, you can kind of think of her as being both the human and the dog, two different bodies and minds that were never meant to be combined.

I sort of have a canon established that runs parallel to my own life, since Muddy is essentially me: But a lot of the things that made her feel different or uncomfortable with herself was due to being part dog but expected to grow up among humans in human society. Muddy was a product of a short-lived experiment (in which she was only one of many) to infuse humans with animal traits, specially dog traits, as dogs are renowned for being trustworthy companions to humans. The experiment was quickly shut down for morality reasons in the scientific community but the half-human-half-dog products that came out of it still had to grow up trying to find their place in society. There are some - more dog than human in demenour - who were unable to keep up with society’s demands of them. Others, like Muddy, still struggle but are able to live among humans, even though a stigma still exists surrounding their kind and they are judged unfairly for it.

Anyway, whew, that was a little much but that sort of explains the idea of why Muddy wants and tries so hard to be human. She hasn’t fully accepted the dog side of herself yet.

Feral Muddy... I haven’t thought too much about her background, but she does get along well with other dogs and pups! I imagine she would still be fascinated with human culture. She loves the mountains and the outdoors - and adventure in general! She can be playful and spirited but also very gentle and calm; she’ll let pups tug at her ears and tail and is typically pretty patient with ‘em. Not afraid to get “muddy” either and does enjoy rolling around in dirt so she can take the smells of nature wherever she goes! I could see her get along with both Growlie and Ginger no problem, and probably many others too! Even bad-natured characters would probably have to work really hard to get on Muddy’s bad side; she is a bit like Growlie in that way, although while Growlie is pretty much friends with everyone, Muddy chooses only good company and just ignores others who belittle her by pretending she can’t hear them.

Thank you! And I’d love to see detailed references of your characters~. Muddy’s is pretty detailed since she’s the thing that represents me; many of my other OCs will be getting simpler refs since I want their stories to tell the rest.
