“How could you...?”“Why did you hurt me...?”
“What did I do to deserve this?”
“Why...?”
———
Bendy woke up and was met with bright light shining onto his eyes. He groaned as he opened his eyes wider and his vision cleared. He looked to his left to see Boris and Alice looking at him with worry. He blinked and after that second, Boris’s eyes lit up.
“Bendy!” he said. He instantly wrapped his arms around the little demon, surprising him. “Oh, thank goodness! You’re okay!”
“We thought we’d lose you, Bendy,” Alice said.
“Of course you won’t lose me,” Bendy replied with a smile. He looked around and saw he was at his home.
“Why am I back here?” he asked.
“Oh,” Alice replied. “You got shot by a few soldiers with the Dip. And a lot was injected in you.”
“Wow,” Bendy said. “No wonder I felt sore that one time.” He remembered running away and then he felt pain on his sides and then at the head. “How long was I out?”
“For a few weeks,” replied Boris. “You’ve been out for so long, you’ve had us worried.”
“Oh. That long?”
Boris and Alice nodded.
“Hm...”
Then they sat in silence, leaving Bendy to observe Boris and Alice having that sad look. He felt curious and didn’t hesitate to ask.
“Why are you sad?” he asked. “It’s not like I’m dead or anything.”
“Well..,” Alice said. “We know that... but it’s something else.”
“What?”
Bendy was only replied with silence. Boris and Alice grew a little more sorrowful, increasing his curiosity.
“It’s okay. You can tell me.”
Alice sighed. “We really want to tell you something, but... I don’t think you’ll like it.”
“You..,” started Boris. “You will... cry...”
“Why? What’s wrong?” Bendy asked.
Alice and Boris looked at each other before taking deep breaths and looked at Bendy with their somber pie-cut eyes.
“Do you remember what you did?” Alice asked. “During your rampage?”
Bendy went deep into his memory. He remembered the screams, the yells, his menacing laughter. But then, he remembered a girl... she had a white unicorn with wings on her purple shirt.
“I remember people screaming and yelling,” he replied. “I remember laughing crazily. And then... I saw this girl... she had a white winged unicorn on her purple shirt that’s almost like Sophia’s, but then again, I’m wrong.”
Boris’s ears slowly went down to the sides of his head. Tears were filling up his eyes. Alice placed a hand on his back, leaving Bendy confused.
“What happened?” he asked.
“That girl you attacked,” Alice said. “She had a purple shirt with a white unicorn on it. Do you remember her having a pink skirt? Or purple hair locks?”
“I think I do,” Bendy said. He went deep into his memory, only to have the same one. “I don’t think I recognize her face, but I saw her pink skirt and shirt only.”
“I got bad news, Bendy..,” Alice said.
Bendy looked at her with wonder, waiting for her to say what the bad news are. “Yes?”
“Actually, it’s very horrible and heartbreaking news. That girl you attacked... was Sophia.”
Bendy tensed. The girl he attacked was his sister figure? Both older and younger? No. That’s not possible, right?
“You’re kidding, right?” he asked.
“No,” Alice replied. “I’m not kidding. That girl really was Sophia, Bendy.”
“No... That cannot be her! There’s no way!”
Boris just covered his eyes and started sobbing softly, making Bendy worried.
“Go deep into your memory, Bendy,” Alice said as she rubbed Boris’s back. “Do you remember more of the girl’s appearance.”
Bendy went deep into his memory. He remembered the skirt and the girl’s hair having parts of it purple. When the girl turned around, he attacked her, to see her purple glasses and her purple eyes.
Then he remembered her voice...
“NO! One bite and you’ll swallow his poison!”
“Bendy, don’t you remember me? Sophia? That girl who is like your little sister? Who loves to prank people with pie in the face?”
Bendy froze up, his body going numb. The clothing, that voice! No... that can’t be her!
“There’s no way..,” he said. “That can’t be her! You’re just bluffing, Alice! She’s alive. She’s alive!”
Alice sighed and patted Boris on the back as he tried his best not to cry more. “Come with us...”
Bendy got out of bed and watched as Alice got her flowers. They were all purple, Sophia’s favorite color. Boris followed her and Bendy followed him to the car.
Alice told Boris to hold the flowers as she drove to the cemetery.
Bendy was left with confusion and he started speaking in denial.
“There’s no way that girl was Sophia!” he said. “She couldn’t be dead! She just couldn’t.”
“Let me drive, Bendy!” Alice yelled.
Bendy cringed in fear a bit, but still glared daggers at the angel as he thought she was lying.
“I’m sorry, Bendy,” Alice said. “But what I’m saying is true... She did die.”
Bendy still couldn’t believe it. Sophia, his big/little sister figure, the Toon Petter, the Purple Princess, the real-world girl. Dead? There’s no way...
When they reached the cemetery, Bendy watched and saw all those tombstones standing firm on the ground. After Alice parked on a wide pathway, the toons went out of the car and went through the field of tombstones on a gravel path. Boris gave Alice the flowers and she held them close to her.
It was a few minutes when they reached a tombstone. Bendy gasped and brought his hands over his mouth. The tombstone has a dragon with feathered wings sitting on it, resembling Sophia’s sun dragon goddess character, Solaritia, who has a sad look in her eyes. It sat under a tree with a maximum amount of purple flowers on it, making the tree look like it has only purple leaves. On the tombstone, a heart was above the words that said Sophia’s full name and her date of birth to death.
Then the words say:
The daughter, the sister, the friend
the wolf, the mermaid
The human girl who loves purple
has passed on too early
Rest In Peace
Bendy stood there in shock as he stared at the tombstone. There was a Mickey Mouse plushie sitting on the left of the tombstone and flowers were on the right.
“No,” he said. “No! That can’t be her!”
“It is her, Bendy,” Boris replied, voice breaking.
Bendy fell speechless again, but out of the blue, he remembered the moment when he made Sophia his victim to his rampage.
———
Bendy rose from his inky portal and stood over the girl he planned to kill. He watched as the girl stood up and brushed herself off.
“Anyway, I think I should—”
The orca released a screech, as if warning Sophia. As he did, Bendy raised his right hand.
“What?” Sophia asked as she turned.
Instantly, Bendy swiped and felt his claws scratch at the girl’s body. He watched as she fell down and saw large, bleeding wounds across her stomach and chest. He couldn’t help but smirk at that. It was so amusing to see people who think they’re doing good things suffer. The girl looked up to him and winced in pain from her gashes. She placed her arm across her large wound. Blood trickled down from her mouth and Bendy couldn’t wait to end her life.
The orca released loud screech, annoying Bendy, but he just kept smiling evilly.
Then he saw the orca rushing to his right side and he swiped at him.
Darn, I missed, he thought.
The girl yelled to her orca friend, “NO! One bite and you’ll swallow his poison!”
The orca obeyed her. Bendy just looked at the teen girl, growling.
“They’ll all pay..,” he said, almost whisper-like.
The girl sat there in confusion and pain before she stood up on her legs slowly and stood up with that weakened look of courage. Her arm and shirt was covered in blood.
“Bendy, don’t you remember me?” she asked. “Sophia? That girl who is like your little sister? Who loves to prank people with pie in the face?”
Bendy swore that name sounded familiar, but he forgot about it a few seconds later and just growled.
“Liar. LIAR!!!” he yelled.
The orca screeched again, but Bendy ignored it.
“‘All demons are evil,’ they say. ‘They should go back to Hell,’ they say. ‘That freak doesn’t belong here.’ You people always say you do things that are right. Look at what you’re doing now. Christians say they should ‘love thy neighbor.’ Well, they are hating on a creature who doesn’t hurt a soul, even if they are creatures that are seen as evil. Well, I’ll show them who’s going to Hell! Starting with you!”
He raised his sharp gloved hand and left another bloody mark on the girl. Then he watched as she fell to the wooden ground of the dock and heard the orca scream. The orca then released a squeal and Bendy just smirked at him.
Bendy just giggled at him. How cute...
“Sorry. I can’t speak whale.”
Then he walked away, leaving the girl’s body to bleed.
———
Bendy felt his eyes fill up with tears. He attacked Sophia that night and didn’t even recognize her face or her voice. His head went down and he shut his eyes tightly, but a tear slipped out of his face and fell onto the grass.
Then, knowing he was the one who made the girl he consider his sister lie lifeless under the purple tree and missed his chance to see her one last time—missed her funeral—he fell onto his knees and began to cry. Boris and Alice felt their own tears leak out and they knelt beside Bendy as he buried his face into his hands, sobbing loud.
Alice placed her flowers in front of the grave and began releasing quiet sobs of her own. Boris just rubbed Bendy’s back as he cried as well, not as loud as Bendy, but still loud.
Bendy felt his heart breaking apart as he remembered what he saw. The tombstone standing with Solaritia sitting on top of it. The words, her date from birth to death! Every detail. It was true! He attacked Sophia! He killed her!
Bendy’s sobs began to transition to wails. Tears dripping heavily onto the grass.
After an hour passed, Bendy was then carried back to the car and Alice did the driving again. As they drove back home, Bendy had his head hung low, no doubt he was still crying. Boris decided to sit in the back to comfort his little buddy. He hated to see Bendy like this, but he hated feeling the sadness growing in his heart. It felt like it was crushing all hearts at the moment.
When they went home, they head back to their rooms with no hesitation, but Bendy was the first. He didn’t want any business after knowing what he did. He locked himself away and behind the door, the angel and wolf heard the demon grieve.
———
The next morning, Bendy wanted a walk around the park to get some things out of his head. Boris and Alice decided to come with him and it’s for the same reason. After eating breakfast and getting ready, they headed for the park.
After reaching the park, the Joey Drew Studios toons decided to just walk. A little exercise could calm them down and those thoughts of sadness for a bit.
As the walked passed toon people, Bendy stared at them. They all had smiles, straight, or just mainly any emotion at all.
They talked, walked their dogs, kids were yelling with excitement, everything. The weather told them that it’s a happy day by having the sun shining brightly and light up the world of color.
That angered Bendy. Why is it sunny? It could’ve been rainy or cloudy to match his feelings at the moment. But no, the weather decided to torture him! It’s laughing at him for suffering the result of his rampage. It’s reminding him when Sophia gave him the sweetest and cutest smiles that tell a person that she is a real innocent sweetheart that doesn’t deserve to be hurt in many ways.
Stupid sunny weather, Bendy thought. Clouds, cover the sun. I don’t want to see the sun right now.
It’s been half an hour and the toons just walked in silence. They were halfway done with their exercise, but on the way, they saw Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice walking by. Boris saw them and spoke up.
“Howdy, y’all,” he said.
The cups looked at them. They had somber looks in their eyes. Knowing them, they had a bond with Sophia as well. They were older, but Sophia had to play the older sibling. They pranked around, played, petted. Of course, they had down times, but they still made each other smile. Just like the Joey Drew Studios toons.
“Hey, guys,” said Cuphead. He seemed to have anger in his voice.
Bendy noticed him glaring at him like he did something wrong. He knew that Cuphead knows who killed Sophia. He felt a bit worried, but he didn’t care. He didn’t want to socialize. Not to mention he believes he deserves it.
“So, what are you guys doing?” Mugman asked, trying to strike a friendly conversation.
“Had any ideas to do today?” Ms. Chalice asked, trying to as well.
“Just walk in the park,” replied Alice. “That’s it.”
“Oh.”
“Well, we’re done here,” Cuphead said, his anger rising from being around the Joey Drew Studios toons. “Let’s go, guys!”
“But, Cuphead,” Mugman said. “We can have a talk with these guys. They are Sophia’s friends, too!”
“Well, one of her friends led her to her grave!”
Cuphead‘s eyes were pointed at Bendy and the demon tensed. His cold words made Bendy shiver like it was a wind in the winter. Cuphead instantly grabbed Bendy by the bow and pulled him close.
“You idiot! You demon! You monster!”
Cuphead yelled such hurtful words to Bendy, making the demon’s eyes water like the words were the dip being poured down onto him.
“How dare you hurt her? HOW DARE YOU?! Why did you hurt her?!”
Bendy tried to pull away, but only to be pulled back to Cuphead.
“Because of you, she’s dead! It’s your fault, Bendy! Your fault she’s gone! You murderer!”
“That’s enough, Cuphead!” Mugman yelled and pulled his brother away, making him release Bendy’s bow. Tears were spilling out of Cuphead’s eyes as if the liquid in his head was leaking out.
After Cuphead was pulled away, he looked at Bendy in the eyes with his own filled with tears and said, “How dare you, Bendy? How dare you... I thought you loved her like how we loved her... But instead you just stabbed her in the back? Betray her? Become her fake friend?”
Bendy couldn’t help but feel more tears fill his eyes at those words. He tries his best to fight it, but it’s at the brink of leaking out after that angry moment with Cuphead. He felt his guilt rise and the need to cry.
“Well, I guess we should go now,” Mugman said.
“Yeah,” Alice agreed. “We should... leave each other alone for now.”
Mugman nodded and he pulled a crying Cuphead while Ms. Chalice walked with them, giving the group one last sympathetic glance.
“See you later, guys!” Mugman called.
“See ya,” Boris replied to him.
The Joey Drew Studios toons were now standing in silence. Bendy was shaking in anger and tears were spilling. They dropped onto the floor as the sun shined through the tears.
“Do you wanna go home, Bendy?” Alice asked.
“Sure..,” Bendy replied, sniffling and wiping his eyes.
The Joey Drew Studios walked for another hour and returned to the parking lot.
After they got in the car, Bendy just felt that need to let his feelings out. The words that Cuphead said. It left wounds on him.
Betray her...
Stabbed her in the back...
Fake friend...
Murderer...
Bendy covered his face to avoid crying again but when the car started to move, he was at the brink.
I really did betray her, he thought. I killed her with that creepy smile. She must really hate me. I loved her, she loved me. And look what I did!
Bendy started to cry just after the car left the parking lot. Those words that Cuphead said, they hurt him bad, but he felt like they’re true.
“It is true!” he whimpered. “I am a monster!”
“That’s not true—” Boris replied, but was interrupted.
“YES IT IS!!!” Bendy shouted. “You heard Cuphead well and you know it! I murdered Sophia! An innocent little girl! With a smile on my face like I enjoyed it!!! Do you really think I’m NOT a monster?! Because I am! I KILLED MY OWN SISTER!!! How am I not a monster?!”
Boris and Alice didn’t say anything else as they felt their hearts wrench at the sound of Bendy’s cries, while Bendy himself started to break down.
After they headed home, Bendy went straight for his room again. He slammed the door and locked it, leaving Boris and Alice feeling the pain Bendy has felt.
His friends decided to leave him alone for a bit to cry out his pain, but they knew it wasn’t enough to heal him. They decided to spend their time mourning over their sisterly figure’s death as Bendy spent his.
Unknown to Bendy, they felt guilt as well.
———
After hours passed, and hours of silence, the moon was high in the sky, shining it’s beautiful light down onto the earth, just like that night when Sophia was attacked. A great reminder of one of her dragon deity characters, Princess Lunasa. Drakenovian goddess of the moon, which leads to reminding of Sophia herself.
Bendy was on his bed, staring at the moon. His eyes lacking the happiness and optimism like they have disappeared in his soul.
Seeing the moon made Bendy feel like he is slowly being pulled away into the darkness, the moonlight vanishing as he went. Most of all, he remembers the light dimmed from his vision as he killed his sister, making more tears rise in his eyes.
He covered his eyes with his blanket and released quiet sobs.
Why? Why did I not wake up sooner? he asked silently. Why?
He still cried, the memory of her still flashing in his mind. Her smile, her laughter, her personality. Everything.
———
“Hey, sis!” Bendy called.
While petting a dragon that is almost as big as her, Sophia turned her head and saw Bendy running towards her. She smiled.
“Bendy!” she called.
“Heya! And who’s the dragon?”
“Crescent! Princess Crescent. Daughter of Princess Lunasa.”
“I can tell by how she got her mother’s looks.”
“And she can be a brat. Like her mom.”
Crescent growled at her like she felt insulted, making Sophia raise her hands up in defense.
“I’m just playin’, girl,” she said. “Just playin’.”
Bendy laughed. “She’s got Mama’s aggression too!”
“She does doesn’t she?”
———
Sophia and Bendy were outside, staring at the stars. They watched the transparent shades of white get covered with glowing white dots. Which reminded Bendy of something.
“Yo, sis.”
“Yeah?”
“I’ve been wondering. Since you have sun and moon dragon goddesses, is there like a star goddess or something?”
“Ha! I have the third celestial deity done, but it’s a boy and is kind of a star god, but I prefer the term, aether god.”
“Aether?”
“I kind of don’t know exactly what that element is, but I do know for sure it’s involved with the universe and anything involving the universe instantly goes to the celestial category.”
“Wouldn’t that make that aether guy stronger than Solaritia?”
“Dragons in that world believe that the light and darkness are the most powerful elements, but darkness is more prone to be corrupted than light. Which makes light pretty powerful than dark in a sense, which is why light gods and light dragons are a teeny bit stronger than dark dragons and gods. Celestial ones especially. Solaritia being the top powerful and Lunasa being the second. Caelestis is 50/50, so he’s third place in most powerful.”
“Huh. Interesting.”
“Yeah. How I ‘power up’ my draggies are weird.”
“You’re an artist, Soph. It’s no surprise.”
“Hm.”
“This aether god. Is he the brother?”
“Yo. I wish and so do the two sisters. But Caelestis and the sisters are siblings by heart. They grew up together and had to suffer together, so they are pretty much siblings but one of them is not related.”
“Oooh! Kind of like us?”
“Yeah. But more.... ummm.... how do I say it.... Formal? Dragon? Godly? I don’t know, but it sure isn’t like us.”
“How, exactly?”
“We act like children all the time and they only did so when they were kids.”
“Hehe. Of course.”
———
“Wouldn’t it be weird to have a friend who has the same name as you?” Bendy asked.
“No. To me anyone can be a friend. In fact, I’d be happy to be their friend. We’ll just try to alter our names a bit to reduce confusion between us. Like a nickname.”
“What’s yours?”
“Why?”
“I’m curious!”
“You’ll laugh.”
“No, I’d never! Tell it. I won’t laugh! Promise.”
Sophia sighed before saying, “Fine. It’s Pia.”
There was a moment of silence before Sophia felt her nose get pinched.
“I’d be a jerk if I laughed at such a cute nickname!” Bendy said.
“Thanks, but I prefer my family, the biological one, calling me that. It embarrasses me when someone else says it.”
“Awww, okay.”
“There are tons of other nicknames, like Soph or Sophie.”
“True. But I still wanna call you ‘Pia.’”
“No!”
———
Bendy felt himself shake more as he slowly broke down into louder sobs. He covered himself with the blanket to muffle them. Those happier times. The times she was alive! The times she was herself.
They’re all gone!
They’ve all come and gone!
And now, thanks to him, they’re lost forever!
As he cried, his heart grew more heavy as the flashbacks returned. It made him cry more and more, letting time pass by until his form fell tired and slowly went to sleep.
———
Bendy woke up and saw himself in the darkness.
“Huh?”
He looked around and walked to find a light. “Is anyone there?”
He continued walking, only to still be in darkness. He couldn’t see his gloved hands at all.
Why am I here? Bendy asked in thought as he walked.
It was not long when his foot hit into something and he bent down to touch it. It was an arm, but why an arm?
Then a light appeared and it made Bendy froze in shock. It was Sophia’s bleeding body! Her eyes closed, her mouth red from her blood flowing from her mouth, large gashes that can kill a person in seconds.
Bendy felt tears fill up his eyes at the sight. It was what remained of his sister when he attacked her. He ran away from it, leading him into the darkness again. He felt relieved to get away from the sight, but he scarred his mind when he saw it. Then, he saw another light. He looked up and saw Sophia looking at him. The large gashes still on her and her eyes looked tired and had no emotion. Blood that was on her mouth was still there. It was like Sophia was resurrected from the dead.
Bendy was too scared to move. He was frozen at the spot. He couldn’t move a single cartoon muscle as he watched the unemotional Sophia stand there, staring at him.
“Why?” Sophia asked. “Why did you kill me, Bendy?”
Bendy felt pain in his chest at that. “I didn’t mean to, Soph!”
“You killed me..,” Sophia said, her eyebrows slowly furrowing. “With that smile on your face... I trusted you, Bendy... I viewed you as a brother this whole time. And this is what I get?”
“I said I didn’t mean to, Soph!”
“Didn’t mean to, my ass... How did you not mean to when you killed me and said those words like I was just some stranger to you? I loved you, Bendy... how could you do this to me..? My other families are suffering because of you.”
Bendy remembered. Sophia is born in a world where toons just remain on the TV screens and there was no magic. And she traveled worlds and made many bonds with the characters. Since she died, then... they probably resented him for ending her.
“I’m sorry..,” he whispered as he couldn’t contain his tears any longer. “I’m so sorry...”
“Yeah, right... I was foolish enough to trust a demon!”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!”
“Bendy... I hate you...”
Bendy felt his body fall cold from those words. He looked up and saw Sophia’s head laying low and then, she looked at him with pure anger in her eyes.
“I HATE YOU!!!”
———
Bendy instantly woke up and saw bright sunlight shining through his window. He also noticed his face was wet. He must’ve been crying during the dream.
It was just a nightmare, he thought.
He wiped his face and remembered the dream he had. Sophia’s words of resentment and her dead body lying on the ground. It felt like this was a sign that Sophia hated him now after he killed her. He placed his hands on his head and exhaled sharply. He hated that dream... it’s probably worse than his nightmares of the studio.
But he didn’t care. It is the most terrible nightmare given to him.
He sighed and just got out of bed and went to go eat breakfast, if anyone made breakfast.
Fortunately, Alice was making hard-boiled eggs for breakfast. Bendy went and got a bowl and took two eggs. Before he took an egg and start peeling off the eggshells, he remembered something.
————
“You really like hard-boiled eggs, huh?” Bendy asked.
“Of course!” Sophia said. “One of my favorite breakfast foods! I eat this at lunch at school too!” She stuffed her mouth with the last bit of the egg.
Mickey laughed. “Remind me to get another dog bowl when she comes by.”
Bendy just laughed as well.
———
Bendy sighed and slammed the egg against the table to crack it. Then he started peeling the shell and skin off. After a few minutes, the entire eggshell was off and now Bendy sprinkled salt on it before eating it. He continued doing so until he reached the yolk. It tasted good with salt.
After eating his breakfast and brushing his teeth, Bendy wanted some real alone time. He asked Alice if there was a place where he can relax for a bit.
“There is this field,” she said. “Many tourists go there, but nowadays, they haven’t been visiting much. It’s called the ‘Rainbow Fields’ because of the colorful flowers growing and there are trees that have different colored flowers! I guess we can go there.”
Bendy felt like going there. He thinks the colors there can calm his mind. He could still remember that ghostly figure of Sophia. He wanted that off his mind.
“Sounds like a nice place,” he said.
Alice nodded and called Boris to get ready.
After they got ready, Alice wanted Boris to drive and the wolf insisted.
And during the drive to the fields, Bendy just couldn’t get his mind off Sophia. His dream, Cuphead’s angry yells. It must be true. Sophia really does hate him.
When they arrived, they noticed that no one was there at the parking lot. Strange that the tourists were not wanting to go and check the fields, but they didn’t care. They all looked in awe at the scenery before them. Small flowers of all colors were everywhere. Trees were of all colors. Bendy felt his heart ache at the scene. It was beautiful, but it just didn’t make him smile.
“Come on,” said Alice. “Let’s go explore for a bit.”
Boris, she, and Bendy left the car and started walking down the field and into the small forest of flowers. Bendy looked at the flowers and gently rubbed a pink one with his fingertips. He looked up and saw a tree with purple flowers like the one at Sophia’s burial spot. He walked over to it, not minding that it will take him forever to reach.
Within ten minutes, Bendy reached the tree and sat against the trunk, looking up to the purple flowers. He felt his heart ache more and looked down.
This could’ve been the most perfect place to bury Sophia, he thought.
There was a lightly strong breeze and it caused some of the flowers to fall off the branch. Bendy couldn’t help but feel more sadness rise in him and as it did, the breeze slowed down. He looked to the field and saw the scenery glow before him under the sunlight. Anger rose in him.
Why is it sunny? It should’ve been cloudy! Or rainy! Just so it can match with what I’m feeling now? If anyone is just smiling as they dance around in this field, then I hope they get out.
Before Bendy could get up, he felt a nudge on his right arm. He looked to his right and he saw a very miniature winged unicorn. It had golden colored hooves and horn, white mane, tail, fetlocks, and wings, sky blue eyes, and white markings. It seemed to have markings of three suns on its hip like a cutie mark in My Little Pony.
Bendy recognized this unicorn. It was Sunshine. Sunshine was Sophia’s pet. Born from an egg and had no mother. Raised by a human child who questioned why a mammal was born from an egg, but still loved her either way.
“Hey, girl,” Bendy said. He reached out and rubbed the unicorn’s back. The unicorn foal did not hesitate to lie down beside Bendy. Bendy tensed up, remembering that moment when Sunshine did the same thing. Only, there was laughter involved.
——
“What the?!”
Bendy freaked out over Sunshine cuddling by his side. The little unicorn stared at him with her big, sky-blue eyes. Bendy calmed down from the cute looks and laughed.
“You scared me, Sunny,” he said.
Then there was laughter.
Bendy looked to Sophia, who was laughing like it was the most hilarious scene in a cartoon starring him.
“Bends!” she said. “She’s just a foal! Or should I say, ‘a kid!’ She’s not going to hurt you!”
Bendy chuckled. “I know.” He removed his glove and rubbed the foal’s back, feeling the soft fur. “You must have always been Sophia’s sunshine, haven’t you?”
Sunshine just whinnied in reply.
“She said she always has,” Sophia translated.
———
Bendy couldn’t help but feel tears well in his eyes. Sunshine was always Sophia’s sunshine like how Sophia has been Sunshine’s. Sophia was also a part of his sunshine, but now he took that sunshine away, he couldn’t help but feel more pain. He tried to fight back tears but instantly, right when a single tear slipped out, he felt a nudge his left and saw a very lighter blue unicorn.
It looked exactly like Sunshine, same white mane, tail, wings, fetlocks. The horn and the hooves were light gray, and the light blue unicorn was covered in stripes than curly markings, having a crescent moon marking on its hip. Its eyes were green. Bendy also recognized this unicorn. It had the most adorable, yet strangest name Sophia has given this unicorn.
Moonshine.
Bendy can still remember her ticked off reaction when she heard about moonshine being taken as a word for a type of alcohol.
———
“Why did you name her ‘Moonshine?’” Bendy asked.
“It matches with her sister’s name, ‘Sunshine!’” Sophia replied. “Besides, it’s like moonlight!”
“Did you know that moonshine is an alcohol?” Bendy asked.
Sophia paused for a second before looking back a bit.
“What?”
Sophia looked at him like she is ready to kill whoever planned to name alcohol after another word for moonlight.
“It’s true! There is an alcohol called ‘Moonshine.’”
“Seriously? They. Named. An. Alcoholic. Beverage. After. Another word. For moonlight?”
“Yeah, I guess.”
“That’s just dumb! I can handle chocolate candy being called ‘Milky Way,’ but this is just dumb. Great. People will think I named this innocent foal after an alcohol.”
Bendy just chuckled and rolled his eyes at her opinion that came out with anger. “That’s just how life is.”
“But I don’t care! People can think I named her Moonshine because she’s got Sunshine on her side! But if I only have Moonshine, bruh, they better ask before assuming! Then again, tons of people are dumbasses and say before they think, but I dealt with it before.”
————
Bendy stroked Moonshine’s mane, feeling more tears rise in his eyes. He missed Sophia’s energetic side that she hid from her less energetic body. Her laughter, how she translated words from her animals, her love for both her little shining unicorns. His body began shaking and he stopped petting the little unicorns.
“Didn’t you hear?” Bendy asked the unicorns, his voice shaking. “Sophia is... dead.”
Sunshine and Moonshine just stared at him like they didn’t know what he was talking about.
Bendy felt tears create streams on his face.
“Sophia is dead,” he said. “Because of me! I killed her. I killed the one person who raised you! And you’re showing off your affection to me? To her killer? Why are you being so nice to me? You should be angry at me, scared of me! Why are you being so nice after what I’ve done to her!”
Bendy felt the unicorns nuzzle him sweetly, their horns rubbing against his cheek and chin. The gesture was so sweet, Bendy tried to hold in from crying, but instantly, the unicorns took notice and just nudged his face, telling him to let it out. Bendy was hesitant, but he looked at the two, seeing them show pleading eyes. He tried to hold it in more, but it caused the unicorns to nuzzle him more, making Bendy go into the breaking point. Sunshine then licked Bendy’s cheek, making him surprised.
“Why did you...?” he asked.
Sunshine released her cutest whinny to him in reply. He felt like she was saying, “I want you to smile!”
He tried again at avoiding crying but he couldn’t handle the emotions he held for so long anymore.
And just like that, Bendy broke down sobbing, pulling the unicorns into a hug. The unicorns just nuzzled him, not caring how loud he sobbed. They wanted to give him comfort after knowing that he killed their owner and missed her funeral. They knew Bendy and Sophia had a bond and they knew that it took a hard hit on the demon after knowing about it.
“I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!” Bendy sobbed. “I’m so sorry, Soph! I wish I can go back in time to fix this and stop myself from killing you!”
His nightmare, Cuphead’s words, the night of Sophia’s death. It ignited his emotions more. He felt his sorrow, guilt, regret, and anger mix up and it blasted out of him. “I’M SORRY!”
His shout of anguish echoed through the field and Bendy swore his friends or anyone beyond the field must’ve heard him. Bendy resumed sobbing heavily after his shout and the unicorns continued nuzzling him like little kids hugging their sad family members. Their affection just broke the dam in Bendy.
Unknown to him, a spirit was watching over him. Her eyes watching with sympathy as she watched her unicorn foals nuzzle the little devil darling as he cried.
It was an hour later when Bendy calmed down. Moonshine looked behind her and let out a whinny. Bendy looked at her and watched as she ran to... nothing. Sunshine did the same and raised on her hind legs. She usually does that to Sophia or people she likes.
Bendy just looked away and wiped his eyes.
What are they even doing? he asked silently. They’re just being kids, I guess.
Then he watched as the unicorns walk back to Bendy, jumping on him and stomping their hooves on him. Bendy just growled.
“What?” he asked, angrily. “Don’t give me that! I don’t see anything and you’re probably just hallucinating! If you’re gonna act weird, do it somewhere else!”
Sunshine and Moonshine stopped and looked out at the field for a moment as Bendy took deep breaths with a bit of hiccups and little bits of sniffles to calm down. Then they got down from Bendy, leaving him surprised. Before he could ask, he felt warm instantly. He also felt heavy.
Why am I warm? Bendy asked silently. Am I sick? Have I been out that long?
The unicorns just stood back and just watched in different directions. Sunshine was staring at the branches on Moonshine’s side of the tree and Moonshine did the same. Bendy continued to feel warm and it also made him feel a bit sleepy. He didn’t want to sleep, but this warm presence just made his eyes go heavy and later, his eyes closed.
———
Bendy was once again in the darkness. He walked and walked, no path, no light to guide him. He felt anxious of the fact that the dead body and her ghost was going to appear to him again. But then, he heard a shout!
A light shined and saw himself with Cuphead shouting at him. His dream self was standing there as tears streamed down his face. The other toons that visited his house were standing there in fear. Cuphead was shouting the same exact words he said back that night.
But then he heard another voice.
“Stop.”
It was faint voice of a girl. He listened closely and she was wanting it to stop.
“Stop it!”
“End it!”
“That’s enough!”
“It hurts!”
“You’re hurting me!”
“You’re hurting him!”
“Stop fighting!”
The girl kept repeating the same exact words. Bendy couldn’t help but wonder who was the girl is because Cuphead and Bendy’s argument is going over the girl’s voice.
The girl kept telling them to stop quietly but then, he felt a very cold feeling and suddenly...
“Please, stop!”
——-
That was shouted out loud and also the girl was crying as she said that. Bendy recognized the voice as Sophia’s and woke up instantly to find Boris and Alice staring at him worriedly.
“Bendy,” she said, smiling. “You were sleeping against that tree for two hours.”
Bendy looked and saw himself still under the purple tree. “Oh...”
“We were thinking about leaving the field now,” Alice said. “Wanna go?”
Bendy paused to think a bit. He wanted to leave. The scenery is too happy to be in, but at the same time, no. The purple tree reminded him of Sophia.
The toons heard a whinny and they saw that the unicorns were running around in circles. They reared a lot and the toons also saw they were looking up a lot, like someone invisible is there. What were they looking at?
As he watched, Bendy felt a feeling of envy and pain at the unicorns as they pranced around happily, fly, and run like the real foals they are. Yep. This is too happy. Their happiness brought back memories of Sophia’s time on earth, being wild, being young, being herself.
The cartoon demon sighed in annoyance. “Why are they acting so weird?” he asked.
“I don’t know..,” Boris replied. “They seem so happy, though. Why?”
“I don’t know,” Bendy said. “Someone invisible is playing with them? Let’s just go. I don’t want to watch them act as if Sophia is here because she is not here! She’s dead! Buried six feet below ground! She’s gone forever!” Bendy’s voice cracked a bit and his eyes watered again, but he wiped his eyes quickly and sniffed.
The unicorns heard him and felt hurt, but also sympathetic. They watched as the toons started walking to their car and get ready to go.
The spirit just sighed sadly as she watched them go. She said, “Bendy. I am here. You just can’t see me.”
The spirit knelt down and rubbed both her unicorns’ heads. “Go back to your world, my little shines. I’ll go and haunt an old friend’s house.”
The unicorns nodded and started running off. The spirit smiled and disappeared... hoping to see if her demon brother is slowly healing and not adding more wounds to himself.
