Description
OOF fullview is kind of huge file size.SO. I've had many people ask me about my approach to lineless and coloring in Photoshop. FINALLY! I've made a tutorial sort of thing! Well its like a guide tutorial. And it was a good excuse to make a nice picture of my character Roger.
The way I choose colors is the same for any style I draw in
I hope its somewhat helpful!

This is really helpful, but do you know how I can make the shapes made with the lasso tool look less "pixelated" (I have Anti-aliasing activated and still looks ugh?
Thank you and have a MERRY CHWISTMAS!

this is very useful! thank you!
can i ask you a question?
how do you make the shadows slightly blend out? like in the skull head, the shadow on it is not completely flat colour... how did you do it?

I'm glad its helpful!
I use the gradient tool to make the shadows blend out like that. So either I make one part of the gradient transparent and the color of the shadow, or I just use two different colors in the gradient to make it not a flat color.

I tried it out and it worked brilliantly. Certainly not the same flair as your stuff, but it really helped me get the look I've been after for a while.
Here's the result.

I think, I can ask YOU.
I don't get it with light and shadows.
How do I add shadows naturally? And how much darker should they be, than the parts in the light?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MagicBunnyArt In reply to Tow1503 [2012-05-18 18:14:53 +0000 UTC]
All of that really depends on what your subject matter is and what your light source (or time of day) is. I really suggest to look at references in order to get a feel of how dark your shadows should be in order to get a more natural look!
Here's a list of references that can help you determine shading and lighting!
[link]
There's no perfect way to know how dark a shadow should be. But these references should help you get a feel for shading!

Wow, what an interesting way to approach lineless coloring! I've not heard of it being done this way *wants to try*
I love your character, too! ^_^

Huh, I never considered drawing with the lasso tool....
Usually I just lower the opacity of the rough sketch and start filling in blocks underneath....
I'll have to try that one out! o:

Super awesome style! I've seen other styles that use the lasso tool like this and they all look really cool and clean. I just wish I was better with the lasso tool. Whenever I use it it looks like squiggly crap. :/ Any tips on how to get such smooth shapes, or does that just come with practice?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MagicBunnyArt In reply to Raidell [2012-05-18 02:43:57 +0000 UTC]
Well it's just about drawing a really fast shape! I abuse the undo tool haha, so I'll keep redrawing that shape and undoing until I get the shape I like! Quick fast strokes also helps with making clean brush lines. Also if you draw on a really big canvas, it'll help smooth out the edges

What about the pen tool?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
MagicBunnyArt In reply to zeleftenant [2012-05-18 12:16:49 +0000 UTC]
I don't like to use the pen tool because to me its insanely time consuming D: I'd rather just draw the lines or shapes myself.
