Description A Lesson in Flight

I stand upon the ledge
(There's no such thing as fear)
Fate is her name
her hands are callused.
Her laughter batters my bones
and, inspired my emptiness,
my heart quakes.

I stand upon the ledge
and cottony-fog slithers
beneath my feet.
Smokey-topaz in his eyes
his hands are callused.
His breath in my hair
and, inspired by completion,
my heart slows.

I stand upon the ledge
And I learn how to fly.

Thank you! I wanted to keep it dark, yet maintain some "glimmers" of light to stay true to the hopeful/calming ending of the poem.

Thanks again!

Thank you so much! I lucked out and found some great stock

And I really had to control myself and not make the colors overly powerful. I'm a slave to the clutter.

Awesome work. "cottony-fog slithers" and "smokey topaz" make that stanza powerful imagery wise. The description of Fate as calloused is great, and the reuse of the word in stanza II suggests not only that he is also calloused but indeed that he is also fate, a nice stanza tying together.

Two things I find odd, the ending which originally seems trite is actually more complex than at first glance since it ties the first two stanzas further together, and then also odd is the pronoun usage in stanza II, which almost seems to personify the fog rather than suggest an actual male presence, the description of the enshrouding fog though and its personification actually seems made to be synonmous with the figure whom is described otherwise as merely a pronoun, in essence combining fog, fate, and a completing lover, all of which is beautiful but lacks, say, three well played sentences to land it all. Still nice.

The image is very cool, especially how the only unadulterated-by-clouds light is on her right waist's side. The angle of said lighting is rough, but reasonably convincing given the arches above and the moon's position. There's some odd creamy grey patches under the moon, but otherwise a perfect remarkably beautiful piece! And hey, no obligatory angel wings

The image was a challenge for me because I'm so used to covering "creamy patches" with some sort of brush work, but since the textures and the angles of the stock photos were so contrasting, I decided not to clutter it up. That grey patch is actually just the blending-out (via layer mask) of the cloud image, into the stars and moon layers. The lighting REALLY 'kicked my ass' because of the strip of light on the girl that you pointed out. But I decided to let it be because of the "unknown angles" that the archway provided me. That was actually the part that bugged me the most (there's a lot to learn from in this piece...but I may not edit it).

The poem, oddly enough, was a quick note of sorts that was purely a way of getting the line "there's no such thing as fear" out of my head. It had been stuck there for days and so I decided to give myself a 15 minute try of getting it out haha!

This poem is actually (obviously shorter) much lighter than what I'm used to writing. As in, I'm sure you could tell, I just ENDED it suddenly. But that lends to the aura of mystery that was inadvertently captured.

It's very strange, Mr.M, how you always have the ability to pry more meaning out of my writing than I had myself originally even knew about! hahaha! The entire essence I was trying to capture in the poem was a dream-scape type of feel, with the moral of learning to stand on my own two feet while trying to decipher the disguises of "fate" and just ..... letting it be. That's were *he* comes in...and gives me the calm/inspiration to stand still through it all. It's A) a thank you to a very special man and B) a reminder to myself that I'm not completely helpless.

Thank you so much for the GREAT comments, you always shed more light on my work than I can! haha!

And yes... no obligatory angel wings....cause, damnit, she doesn't need em

I'm so glad you like it! This one was really fun for me because it's not as busy as the others that I have done. I wanted to concentrate more on colors and contrasts.

Thanks for the comments and for the great material to work with!
