Description
Pokedex Challenge #56 #57I'm drawing the pokemons as they appear in the gameboy games: pokemon red and blue version, while I learn how to draw with Paint Tool Sai.
◇─◇──◇────◇────◇────◇────◇────◇─────◇──◇─◇
Mankey and Primeape had the same color, but I made mankey a bit darker because primeape's gloves and feet need contrast.

Ohhh! You like mankey and primeape?! It's rare to see someone giving them some love (especially after the creation of popular fighting pokemon.. cofcof lucario!).

Oh yes, I love those angry fluffballs ^^ (even chose Primeape for my entry in the big GAHQ pokemon project ^^)
It was only when Gen. 6 brought Pangoro and Hawlucha, that Primeape got some competition ^^

Angry fluffballs??!!! They will kill you for sure XD
Woww! You resisted Lucario!!!
My favorite fighting type must be Breloom! Spore, technician... He is so versatile an evil hahaha

I always loved how fuzzy their fur is, and they certainly don't resist being petted in Pokemon-amie/Refresh ^^
And yeah, never been much of a Lucario fan (or Blaziken, another popular choice), but the badass banchou panda and luchador hawk are another story XD

That's amazing!!! Someone who doesn't care about fan favorites! I guess you're suffering with Galar: they're building a wall to avoid haluchas to enter hahaha

They're building a wall to keep far too many mons behind... and that's certainly not the only problem with Galar...

LukeTheRipper In reply to mak-sketches [2019-09-08 15:45:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh, there's plenty of people who are quite unhappy about the new games, the only blind ones are Nintendrones, and even though there's not that many of them, they are loud.
Only other people who still support the game and come up with excuses for it's state are the poketubers, if only because they make a living out of it and if people boycott the game, they can't make any money XD

Ohhh... there's more people unhappy with the game? All my friends are very exited for it, so I'm like the black sheep on that -__- But I'm glad more people think like it, because I don't want pokemon for mobile ruining consoles =/ Both should be good.
I hope the sales go badly, but we know that's impossible Actually, I'm not against playing it... let's say there's ways of playing it without having to pay for it. And you also don't have to do something illegal to do so, buying the used game is a great way of reducing the sales without giving up the game!

Well, it's Pokemon, so it's no wonder people are excited. Hell, even though I personally am very unhgappy about the state of this game... I can't lie, I'd love to get some of the new pokemon and try them out ^^ (mostly Wooloo and Yamper ^^)
As far as sales go, Sun & Moon didn't do well, Ultra Sun & Moon did even worse, Let's Go games did considerably better, though only because they were the first Pokemon games for the Switch, but even they didn't sell quite as good as the old ones. But since they still somewhat sell, the company simply got lazy, cause they know they can halfass it and people will still go batshit over it cause it's Nintendo and it's Pokemon...
As for the mobile version, Pokemon Masters is made by DeNA, who previously made Final Fantasy: Record Keeper, so I can at least trust them, that the game they'll make will be a good one ^^

Wooloo and Yamper are the best, I'm so sad they're cool pokemons trapped in a bad game
I didn't know that sm didn't do well! There's a reason for that?!
Let's go had pokemon go vibes and appealed for the older gamers too. So, I'm not surprised it worked out but they aren't a reason to buy a switch, maybe it's sales will increase after the main series games. Pokemon will sell no matter what, so game freak can get lazy -_-
Yeah, I'm more exited for pokemon masters now than for ss! But at the same time, I wish to play a console game.

Could say the same about Rockruff/Lycanroc and a few other Gen.7 mons.
Yes, there are reasons S/M didn't do well, simply put, those were bad games. Overabundance of events you had to sit through, enemy trainers (which are few as is) sporting single pokemon "teams", fights you can easily breeze through using Z-moves, and a LOT of other design flaws was a major turn-off for most players (also, they have THE most unlikeable cast even put in a pokemon game. And the fact US/M was only a small expansion with some events altered rather than a true flaw-fixing sequel like all the other definitive parts of a Gen. only turned-off people even more.

You didn't like sm too? The overabundance of dialogue and events was PAINFUL, z-moves are boring, the cast was lame and I don't care for them (bring gary back! He was a jerk, but at least he made me feel something!! haha). I didn't bother to play us/um because it was the same first game... Yeah, for me it was a boring game, rockruff and the final owl starter are cool, but the game was boring.

"Didn't like" is putting it lightly XD I wholeheartedly despise what they did with those games >w<
I already got rid of my copy of S/M by the time US/M came out, so I grabbed a copy cheap and still have it... and still haven't finished it, just can't get myself interested...
Which is all the more painful because there's a lot of new pokemon in there I really loved and wanted to use more : <

mak-sketches In reply to LukeTheRipper [2019-09-13 13:58:28 +0000 UTC]
Wholeheartedly despise is a great way of putting it! I didn't buy US/M because the first game was so boring. I don't want to read a novel when I'm playing pokemon, I want to play pokemon!! I should be obvious.
That's true, the 7th gen has great designs,I used the game mostly for shinning hunting because of it.

Well, all things considered, at least the new Digimon game is looking great, and Yokai Watch 4 is out already (and the English version is being worked at as we speak) which is another amazing monster breeder game, so if they snatch away pokemon fans, Gamefreak might finally wake up.
Hell, even Yokai watch 3 and Monster Hunter Stories for the 3DS looked better than Pokemon Gen. 7 & 8 XD

I liked playing yokai watch, it is a well made game. I'm glad to know we are going to see another one!
Sadly, I don't know why it didn't work out so well, a few people know about yw. Maybe the market is filled with monsters games?!
Monster hunter stories is so cute >_o I hope to play it someday!

LukeTheRipper In reply to mak-sketches [2019-09-14 16:12:35 +0000 UTC]
Wouldn't say it's "filled" with monster breeder games, if anything, the Pokemon cult has been killing far too many of 'em.
Nah, it's more of a "cult of a single title" thing, where one title of a genre gets a massive following, and fans of that title will seek out any potential competition and do their best to kill it, mostly through badmouthing it around the net or throwing bad reviews left and right. That or just trolling you for liking it if you ever dare post positive feedback about it.
Pokemon fans have been doing this to series such as Digimon or Yokai Watch just as much as Zelda fans have been doing this to Okami, Brave Fencer Musashi or any other action-adventure game (goes as far as the NES days, when they did this to The Guardian legend, a game that dared to be superior to the first Zelda).
And MH Stories is awesome, love how you can ride the monsters, all the monsters as opposed to Pokemon, and they all get a signature special attack. If you like monster breeders, you should totally play it ^^

mak-sketches In reply to LukeTheRipper [2019-09-15 01:19:58 +0000 UTC]
So... you believe that pokemon fans are used to talk badly of other games that try to be similar to pokemon. It may be the case, haha I was going to use the same exemple as you used, Digimon suffered with it >_o
MH Stories has nothing to do with the main series games besides the monsters, right?

LukeTheRipper In reply to mak-sketches [2019-09-15 11:30:06 +0000 UTC]
Obviously not all fans, but every big fandom got that sort of people
And yeah, MHS is a whole separate story is a sorta separate MH universe where the monsters are smaller and tameable ^^

Yes I happen to have a ken sugimori book, this one:
The cover has his most recent style being shown off but most of the book has really old comic work he did over the years, Id even say some of it is strangely uhmm... lets say "tyical animu japanese"??? Ken really seems to like to draw girls lets put it like that
But it certainly has a WAY bigger emphasis on his other stuff, its like 95% his old work and 5% Pokemon
Although it does show how he made grids for pixel artwork for the monsters I believe at the end, including the Pulseman game

Even if they're angry, they still look cute lol.
Funnily enough, there are some little similarities between Mankey and Mew's early sprites; that's because they were created by the same artist (and what's even more interesting is that Mew was designed after Mewtwo twitter.com/helixchamber/statu… . That means Mewtwo was the original one lmao)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
mak-sketches In reply to introvertnacho [2019-08-24 20:55:31 +0000 UTC]
Oh boy!!! Morimoto did mankey's and mew's design?! Now I can see it clearly....!
But it's funny how the old designs had unity. The 5th generation was a mess (in my opinion) because of a lack of unity between the pokemons, it seemed like each designer did it's job without talking to the other. Most of them were overly designed or had a strong and individual artist style attached to it.

introvertnacho In reply to mak-sketches [2019-08-24 21:20:45 +0000 UTC]
I personally love Gen V (Snivy is my favorite grass starter) but I can see why there were many differences between the old and new pokemon when B&W was released. They possibly needed more artists to design the 155 new pokemon in time. Maybe that's why there were less new mons when Gen VI and Gen VII came out.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
mak-sketches In reply to introvertnacho [2019-08-25 19:12:49 +0000 UTC]
Snivy is lovely in so many ways, I love it ♥
Gen V had many cool designs, I can't deny it. It's just that they don't have repeated forms, or something that visually connects all the pokemons. The gap between a reshiran and a vaniluxe is huge in design terms.

introvertnacho In reply to mak-sketches [2019-08-25 20:51:22 +0000 UTC]
Yep, there were drastic differences in terms of design with the other generations before, specially Gen IV, since that one introduced new evolutions and preevolutions to older Pokemon.
