I've actually seen your Toph costume in person, and always wondered how you did the bun..honestly when I first read the tutorial, I'm surprised how lightweight you got it to be. I'm cosplaying Toph myself, and that wig always stumped me, so thank you for posting this great tutorial!!

Hey I used this method for my Toph wig which I cosplayed at San Japan. Everyone loved it and asked how I made the wig. This is probably the best tutorial there is!

Hello!! Im going to be using this method to make my Mini Mandy(www.fanpop.com/clubs/grim-tale… cosplay wig. I was wondering where to get the hair extensions? Would clip ins like these m.lightinthebox.com/high-quali… be ok?

as long as those extensions are long enough they should work. i got mine from sally's beauty supply store

I need to go get more hair dye so ill check their when I go. . But I was thinking that maybe if i got a long wig like thisΒ www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006OUE… and sectioned it off in ponytails to a length right under my chin and cut it off and use that as the hair extensions so its the same color maybe that would be a better idea?

Would this work with a styrofoam ball? The foam that you used is very expensive and I just don't have the money for it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

makeshiftwings30 In reply to Zelda0bsessi0n [2013-07-19 02:27:03 +0000 UTC]

It would be extremely fragile and thats probably not a good idea

Zelda0bsessi0n In reply to makeshiftwings30 [2013-07-19 14:46:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh alright. Would there be a good substitute for the foam, or no? (Thank you, by the way)

makeshiftwings30 In reply to Zelda0bsessi0n [2013-07-19 23:37:18 +0000 UTC]

the only other thing i could think of would be sewing something shaped like a shower cap to attach to the back of the wig and then stuff it with polyfill, then cover it in hair. not sure how that'd hold up though

Great tutorial! *A*
But.. is it heavy? Well, when I wear also a normal long wig (100 cm) it's very heavy and if I don't use some mastix (is the english word for this? That's the glue that people use for elf's ear) it falls down. çAç
So does you fix it in some way?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

makeshiftwings30 In reply to Eadhadh [2013-07-15 23:03:04 +0000 UTC]

it's not heavy at all. the foam and fibers are very light weight. plus with the bangs in the front, it balances really well. i don't even have to pin the wig down for it to stay on (though i wouldn't recommend it at all)

Wonderful tutorial! I hope to use it when I cosplay (hopefully) Toph. Out of curiosity, did you have to cut your original base wig in the back? I noticed you used a rather long base wig. If so, what did you do with the extra? Couldn't you have used it when wrapping the foam? Or did you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

makeshiftwings30 In reply to Kanouchi [2013-06-21 12:59:55 +0000 UTC]

No my base wig was very short in the back. I only trimmed the bangs. Good luck!

Hey! I love this tutorial and plan on using it for my Toph cosplay, but I'm having a problem finding the foam. I know you said you bought yours at Joann's but when I look online all I find is super expensive ($50+) foam. Is it possible if you, or anyone, could link me to the type of foam you're using?

The only issue was that the foam was *expensive*, but luckily it was on sale.

Thank you so much for making this awesome tutorial! <3

Thank you so much for making this! I was planning on doing a Toph cosplay, but I had no idea how to make the wig. This is the best tutorial I've found. When I make the wig, I'll definitely use this tutorial!~ But I have one question. Do you remember about how long were the extensions you used? Do I have to use super long extensions or do normal length extensions work?

Do you think this tutorial would work for Katara's hair when she's dressed as Aang's "mother" ([link] )?

makeshiftwings30 In reply to Seiryuu-san [2013-02-28 21:23:05 +0000 UTC]

i'd suggest trying the normal odango method first, but you may not be able to find styrofoam large enough [link]

I am in the process of making this and it has been so much easier thanks to your awesome tutorial but I do have one question. When you are sewing the wig to the foam, where in the wig are you putting your stiches? This is the only part of this whole process that has worried me as my head is a bit large and so I still need my wig to give a good amount of stretch when I put it on. Thank you so very much and your wig is awesome.

I was wondering, because the two links you used for your suggested base wigs expired, would an arda blue steele wig [link] work and where did you get your extensions? If you could help me I would really appreciate it.
