How much did all of this cost? I'm in need of many wigs so I'm kind of on a budget. I've already found a great and cheap base wig but I'm still in need of the rest of the materials.

uhhhm, it wasn't too bad. upholstery foam is extremely expensive but if you buy it smartly it won't cost a lot. the thickness you need is like $70 a yard, but you only need a foot of it. if you buy it at joanns when it's 50% off it should only be like $12 or something. the loose hair at sally's is super cheap and is only like $3 a pack or something like that. i don't know how much caulking is because i had some lying around. i'd say on top of the base wig, the other supplies should cost you around $25-$30.

Great tutorial! I'm very glad I came across it, since I've taken on the task of making my friend's Toph wig.
I do have a quick question. When you're sewing the base wig to the bun, are you sewing the base wig to just the fabric strip ? I've never done anything like this before, so I want to make sure I'm understanding it correctly. Thank you!

makeshiftwings30 In reply to DestatiSm [2011-01-17 18:42:16 +0000 UTC]
thank you!
i sewed it to the fabric strip, but at times i felt the needle also go through the foam, which isn't a bad thing. it'll only give it more strength.

Um...sorry for the newb question, but where can you find the wefts? All the ones I can find a.) don't match the wig, b.) are too short or c.) are REALLY EXPENSIVE.
Please help?

makeshiftwings30 In reply to PurpleKiwee-137 [2010-10-22 18:04:34 +0000 UTC]
I found them at Sally's Beauty Supply. If you can find a store near you, definitely go there over ordering them online. They are very expensive online. Also, if you go to a specialty wig shop, they will probably be very expensive too. Anyway, you should have bought your base color and it should have come in a color 1 or 1B, so just buy wefts in that color.
