Description I finished making my BLING!

well, almost finished....(I need to touch up some of the paint on the ring that's connected with the chain, and then I'm probably going to glaze the whole thing)

anyways, it was lots of fun.....especially getting lost at the hardware store....>.<

I made the base out of balsa wood, and the details like the eye and corners are made out of super sculpey clay.

Do you have any tips on how you made this? My son wants a 'real sized' Sennen/Millenium Puzzle. It's beautiful by the way. I love it!

Malindachan In reply to kallistra [2010-01-22 23:40:16 +0000 UTC]

I don't have the puzzle with me at college to measure the size, but I made mine out of balsa wood, a curtain ring, and super sculpey clay. I first made the base pyramid out of the wood, leaving a square opening in the top. there are two pieces of wood that are glued together around the curtain ring and cover the square opening on top of the pyramid. I made sure to put the chain on the ring before I glued the wood around it.

The eye on the front is made out of clay as well as the corner pieces. I wrapped alluminum foil around the corners of the puzzle and molded the clay on top of them before carefully removing them with the foil attached so I could bake them. Once the eye and corners cooled down, I hot-glued them to the puzzle and painted the whole thing with a metallic gold paint (and I painted the part under the eye black before I glued the eye on)

Hope that helps ^.^

Thank you so much! That does help a lot. I'm sure I'll get even more odd looks at work now than I already do when I start creating our own puzzle.

Sweeet - I stumbled on this looking for a good Millennium Puzzle to use for a dock icon I've been wanting to do. Is it alright if I make one based on this image and post it on DeviantArt? I'll send you a preview, if you like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Malindachan In reply to CLGristwood [2009-07-12 05:50:28 +0000 UTC]

I guess it would depend on material cost. I think it cost about $20 for the materials on mine, but that was mostly because boxes of super sculpey clay cost around $10.
