My character for a Dungeons and Dragons game I'm playing! Kenku are great.

Name: Silence (Kenku mimic noises for their name, so if asked, he'll just stand there and stare at you).
Class: Cleric
Background: Cloistered Scholar

Silence was born to a poor family of thieves in one of the major cities of a far-off region. The other kenku here had formed a thieves' guild, and Silence's life plan was set to become another thief for said guild. He was taught some basic skills any thief would need at a young age - a little pickpocketing and burglarizing, but things changed for Silence when he grew into his teenage years. A mysterious plague rolled into town from the east, and soon, just about everyone was inflicted with the mysterious sickness. The economy of the region was devastated, and thieving soon became an unreliable method of obtaining something to eat, rather than the chance to obtain riches. Silence continued to thieve for a few years, but as the people he stole from suffered from this horrid plague, he quickly began to regret that his method of livelihood only seemed to cause more misery. His parents fell ill eventually; his father first, and then his mother after she tried her best to bring him back to health. Eventually, he resolved to steal books from scholars to learn more about magic and medicinal craft, after spending enough time listening to local priests and clerics that the city had hired to help with the local plague. He spent as much time as he could learning from these books and conversations between doing jobs for the guild.

He helped other members of his guild as best as he could with the knowledge he had, but eventually, the plague wiped most of them out, and the remainder of the guild members all agreed that it was time to move on. Silence left the disease-ridden town with a heavy heart, overwhelmed with grief. But the experience drove Silence to expand his knowledge on medicines, alchemy, and healing magic to prevent something like this from happening to him ever again. He took on his current name, after the insults people would throw at him, as a reminder that his life as a thief was a shameful one.

Now at age 24, he has become a competent doctor, travelling around the continent to aid those in need. He is sometimes commissioned by cities, and he is able to solve their problems most of the time. There is still a lot Silence has to learn, and when he overheard the stories about a great scholar know as "The Master," he couldn't resist the chance that she may be able to help his studies, especially with magic. He immediately planned to head for Parabor, despite the potential danger in the journey.
