Description Just a sketch I decided to color for one of my characters, Vivian.

I think it came out pretty nice, nice enough to use as a reference for her for now.

Much appreciated! I should do some more sketches like this. It's fun and it helps offset my lack of free time to draw haha.

Hello!Β
I am from I am sorry that it took me this long to get to your work. I hope you will forgive me!

First things first, I have to say that Vivian is a rather nicely put-together character. She has a great combination of being realistic and fantastic all at the same time. You also have a nice and warm colouring scheme for her which makes her more personable and down to earth. And yet there are just enough quirks about her design that makes her stand out. And finally, the sketches themselves look rather nicely done. So overall, I think you have accomplished a lot with just this one sketch. Well done!Β

Now, how to make Vivian even better?
The first thing that comes to mind is how complimentary her colour scheme is. She's earth-toned from head to toe. And unfortunately, it also means nothing about her really, really stands out. I would recommend adding details her person (I'll get to that in a bit) or changing parts of her colour scheme so that something stands out just a little bit more. Usually if you work with a palette, there is one or two colours that stand out a little bit, either because they are much brighter or darker than the rest or because they are contrasting colours. It's worth experimenting on, I think. The other thing about designing a character is a bit of a "branding" procedure. If there are certain designs on the characters, you want to repeat them as reasonably many times as possible to capture the overall cohesiveness. So you may consider changing the necklace and her shoe buckles into different versions of that golden pin on her hat. Or you may also consider repeating the same upside-down cross pattern on her shoes instead. There are a few ways to go about it, but it helps to make a character look coordinated head to toe.Β

I don't know which species Vivian belongs to, but I have to say that her tail seems somewhat out of place. I have looked at this picture up close and from a distance, and the tail really stands out. I think it's because it's the most stylized part of the whole character. I wouldn't ask you to take it away or change it because it's part of her design, but I would just like to draw you attention to it. The other thing that I would like to draw your attention to is her right hand. Usually folks don't splay their fingers like that. The slight bend to her index finger makes it look like she is trying to hold on to something but there's nothing in her hands. It's a bit painful in real life to try to hold that pose, too. Β

Over all, I think Vivian has a lot going for her. She looks like a fun, balanced out sort of character. She has fantasy elements, but they are subtle enough that they help to embellish her. And her colour scheme is actually just a little too mid-tone to stand out (as compared to a lot of the techni-coloured original characters out there.) So I have to say that I really like her. There are a few things that can be tweaked a bit, but overall, I'd say Vivian's definitely a keeper. Good job!

Thanks for the critique! I appreciate it!

You have some good suggestions here. Going forward I'll see how I could change Vivian's appearance up to make something striking or memorable about her. And I'll also try to come up with a better pose for hands haha.
