Description An old abandoned thing I came back to because I figured out articulation and sculpting a bit more. I love me Medabots, and the only modern figures I'd want are... Premium Bandai exclusives. So I wanted to make my own! Like those, this is meant to be about 4 inches tall, so it is... "close enough" 1:12 scale.

The first model here is the male Tinpet, which will be released once I then make the female Tinpet. A big hurdle was adding articulation as much as possible - I had double-jointed knees and elbows figured out, using paperclip pins, but there were complications from trying to print those kind of parts this small. the limbs were literally 3mm wide. I also wanted to be clever and have the limbs use the same part several times over, but that also wasn't gonna work.

The solution? Accepting that I can't add articulation everywhere. So in the end, the Tinpet has peg swivels at the shoulder and waist, and balljoints at the neck, hips and feet. It's enough to be a bit expressive, but since the Tinpets don't DO much apart from being a display piece and "Your Medabot took a lot of damage" parts, it's okay for it to not do much.

Also! The hands may look familiar, because I took my custom SO-DO hand template and adjusted them to be just slightly larger, by which I mean every part is maybe lengthened by 0.25 mm. This means it uses a balljoint. Unlike SO-DO, I don't think I will do much for hand options outside of open hand and clenched fist unless there's a specific thing to model. I may or may not work in 3mm hands when weapons come up.

Also also! I really enjoy the modular style of Medabots, so that's why the aforementioned waist and shoulders use a peg. The proportions of the waist are a little wider to accommodate it, but I think it still looks good.

The next thing I'd wanna do for this lineup is of course the classic Metabee, and several other mainstays from that original anime. But there's also some later designs I like the look of that I'd wanna see as figures. It's a bit more of a challenge than Transformers Animated because there is somewhat of a template to stay within, but I think it'll turn out fine.

If you like what I do, wanna help me keep it going, or just in general wanna help me get by in life, there's ways below to support.
