Description I think this view shows the texture a little better. This is a blank journal that I decorated with polymer clay and a sea sediment jasper cabochon.
The texture comes from a bit of old lace.

Awesome!! I get some great scale textures from body or bath sponges. I just pull the "fabric" apart and then voila', yards of texture! lol

Wow! I really love your work. I think this one is my favorite so far!

I considered decorating my new sketchbook with a thin layer of polymer clay sort of like this, but I'm afraid it would get beat up since I toss my stuff rather haphazardly into my bag each day. Is there a secret to keeping the design from breaking easily, besides being really careful?

MandarinMoon In reply to Terrier-Padawan [2013-01-19 04:06:35 +0000 UTC]

Thank you! Well, polymer clay is a plastic and as long as it is conditioned and cured properly it is fairly durable. It will still get banged up if treated roughly, though so would a plain book To make it as sturdy as possible, don't leave any small pieces sticking up or out anywhere as they will easily snap off. The design above is likely to wear very well as there are no little bits. Conditioning the clay properly prevents it from becoming brittle after curing. Read the package directions and cure to the proper temperature and length of time. Hope this helps!
