Description
I finally managed to get two of my fractal 3D sculptures printed on shapeways. This is a small version of "Mysterium Cosmographicum Fractalium"
It is a weird feeling to hold something in your hand which has been hiding in the mist of mathematics until now… now it is a real world object! Mighty!
I will try to make a bigger more detailed print of it but it is not easy to make this object printable with lots of detail...

Thank you Nic!
I was checking out your tutorial, almost the same procedure as I use (I follow the one from the thread on ff + some tips from bib)
I was testing sculptris to make some thin walls thicker, but it is really hard on complex fractal shapes...

You're wright for Sculptris i recommend in the tuto to use it only for cleaning plane area and to not touch the borders, i use it only for smoothing the surface. Smoothing with Meshlab modifiy the complete mesh but smoothing with Sculptris do not modify the structure of the mesh.
Best regards, Nic

Yes, it is a great idea to use sculptris for this!
Do you know any free software which can make boolean operations?
Like removing a sphere from another object...

For removing part of a mesh i use Meshlab, many possibilities to select the part who want to remove. I dont know other free software to do that, may be you can try Rhinoceros with have a lot of mesh tools but it's expensive

Yes, I am learning to use those features in meshlab, but booleans would help a lot sometimes...
Netfabb can do it... if you buy it
Thank you once more Nic!

Just don't create the fractal troll in real life, it looks very bad and menacing.

I have actually made a 3D model of it
Not sure I will print it, it looks better as an image I think.

Thank you Schmiegel.
Yes it is quite nice, giving you a glimpse of what is going on inside...
