Description Using Horo Anteroom HDRI as lightsource and backdrop, I was trying to make something that looked plausibly like a 3D print - hence the horizontal banding effect applied to the material.

Modeled in Wings 3D.

Rendered in Octane.

Congratulations - absolutely photorealistic scene. DOF makes it look like a macro shot of a little gem stone.

Thank you, it is very nice to experiment in Octane, the interface lends itself to trial and error with materials and lighting. Β I come to like Octane better every time I use it.

That's probably the best render I've seen in a long time.

Thank you. Β I thought maybe it was a bit dowdy, but by the same token perhaps that lent it some charm.

Wow... Incroyable !

I feel that you are forced to use SSS to justify the use of Octane for the render... Low level of psychology : Bryce, where are you?Β

Bryce is rendering also, patience. Β As is DS. Β Octane goes first because it sets the standard, it has SSS, it has spectral scattering and handles caustics. Β In terms of light simulation, if realism is the aim, Octane wins out of DS and Bryce. Β In other respects it is limited. Β But often the aim is realism.

i think that looks really beautiful. It would look awesome printed out big and placed as a feature on a wall. The material settings are lovely. Reminds me of a gemstone called Milky Quartz. See s.ecrater.com/stores/16897/486…

I'm totally enamored with Octanes SSS. Β I did pull out the SSS shader brick in DS. Β Hmn... a bit processor intensive wot? Β Glass alone was bad enough, though I may have done something wrong.
