Description I know, it seems strange because chibis are so simple that people would have trouble drawing them... but we do. Good artists who are used to drawing more realistic stuff have trouble figuring out how to draw the ultimate in cuteness. A lot of people ask me about chibi drawing and I know I had a hard time figuring it out too, so I figure this should help. The other great thing about chibi art is that if you are just starting as an artist, chibis are simple and easy to start with. ^^

The main thing about chibi art is that the head is huge and the eyes fill most of the face.. the rest is actually kind of squished together at the bottom. The body is simplified as well. Thank you for this. I'm just beginning to learn to draw and I find the chibi to be less intimidating. However, I am having difficulty with drawing eyes. Something about the placement and the proportion.

cool how to, just to throw a view point out there besides people who are used to drawing realistic proportions I think to some extent it's trying to make it look like a person without going too far with the disproportionate features like the eyes and head. The hardest thing I've tried so far is drawing a chibi based on a real person because you have a live reference to work from but when you're deliberately trying to draw out of proportion it's counter intuitive between what you're seeing and what you're doing.

You are so right about that. Drawing chibis from real or realistic references can be a huge challenge. But I guess you have to remind yourself that there is only so much variety in the world of chibis, and that you should not stress too much about it.

I make the heads different, sorta like a rounded square. I learned how to make them w/ an app on my itouch, I just need to master the eyes and nose

Thanks a Bunch! Just bought a christopher hart Drawing Guide to chibis but it didn't teach me HOW to draw. (On the other hand it probably taught me how to stare at pictures wishing i COULD draw them) So this really cleared alot of things up for me
