Description
BetrayalHe pulled his black wings in close to his body and fell into a spiralling dive. Just a few moments later his wings snapped open bringing him to a glide just below the clouds. A few sweeps of his wings and he launched himself through the clouds to swat an unsuspecting foe with his mace.
He was an impressive sight, with his jet black skin and feathers, he was often given the nickname Black Death. Most impressive though was his many glowing blood red tattoos, which proclaimed him a warrior surpassing many other. He ran his fingers through his red hair, ensuring all of it was tucked behind his tightly curled golden rams horns before he launched himself fully into battle.
The battle thrummed with a multitude of voices, all raised in song. Most voices held a single note, but those did not worry him. What did matter was the complex interwoven melody which dominated the battle.
"The angels are singing up something big!" He called to his fellow warriors.
One warrior dropped down to fly beside him, "None of our demons can reach the choir, we can't stop it Yethzer."
Yethzer snorted, "You can't stop it, that's why I'm accompanying you novices, let me show you how a true warrior does it."
Without another word Yethzer dived into the clouds. Within them the battle sounded muffled, but he kept sharp. He paused when he spotted an angel drop into the cloud. Its silver skin almost all hidden by the layers and layers of purple and teal clothing. It pushed back its bronze hair, trying to see through the thick cloud. Its, his three eyes passed over Yethzer unseeing. He must have realised he was at a disadvantage in the thick cloud because he sung a little louder and shot back up into battle. Yethzer smiled slightly and continued on, keeping the battle as clear in his mind as possible. He stopped again looking up through the cloud, but nothing could be seen. He would have to trust his memory.
With one massive downswing of his two wings he surged upwards, mace already halfway through its swing. A harp shattered under its blow, sending its tightly sprung wires into the eye of the young angel holding it. The angel fell into the clouds, but Yethzer didn't stop to watch. The angel choir was already wobbling in the air, but its song went on uninterrupted. Yethzer looked for the other one, the other angel entrusted with keeping this choir in the air. He saw her, holding her note as long as possible as she valiantly tried to keep the choir aloft. She saw him, and drew a short sword from the sheath at her waist, allowing her harp to fall to the heavens. She glanced up at the choir, but typically there was no help to be found from her fellow angels.
Yethzer snorted, they were pitiful, needing each others help to cast anything but the most simple spell. Yet if an angel wasn't helping them sing up magic, that angel didn't matter. They even had the arrogance to assume that another angel would catch the choir should they fall. It always seem they cared about each other as much as they cared about the innocence of those they murdered.
Yethzer gasped as the sword cut into his arm and swung his mace. She had gotten too close, and even with the aid of the armor hidden beneath her many layers of clothing her ribs still caved in. She tried to keep singing, but the blood reached her mouth and she stuttered and the entire choir fell. The choir tried to continue the song, but one by one the individual angels lost nerve and sung themselves upwards instead.
The choir fled, and the last remnants of the angel warriors followed them. A few demons went to follow but Yethzer called them back. His inexperienced troop needed rest and healing. They glided south east, using as little energy as possible as they followed the winds.
The clouds cleared and they could see the land below once more. It was green and verdant, not like their home. They needed to cross the border before they could rest. A light flashed before them accomanied by a short sharp tune, Yethzer's instincts took over.
He pulled his wings in close to his body and dived. Falling until just as it seemed he would smash into the ground his wings snapped open. They caught him just above the tree tops, and as he glided like this he looked to the sky.
Only a few other demons from his troop had escaped the trap, like him they had dived low. The rest of his troop were trapped within a sphere, barely big enough for them all. They were hurling spells and weapons at the sphere's invisable wall, but they were only managing to hurt themselves.
With two mighty flaps Yethzer brought himself back up to the level of the trap. Seeing that he was free caused the others to stop battering at the sphere. He reached out to touch the sphere, it sparked and he frowned. He threw his huge mace to one of the others who had escaped and placed both hands on the sphere.
"What is it Yethzer?" One of the trapped demons asked him.
Yethzer frowned, "It feels like angel magic, but the shape of it is all wrong."
Yethzer drew back from the sphere again, he then raised a hand in front of him and drew a figure in the air. Its complex curves glowed and irridescent red. With one last motion he sent it to the sphere and there was a blinding flash. Yethzer roared in anger and smashed against the sphere. It flared bright again, then faded. He didn't stop smashing it until someone tapped him on the shoulder. He spun, fists balled and talons extended.
"What's wrong?" The demon holding Yethzer's mace asked.
Yethzer forced himself to relax, but all he achieved was the tenseness of a cat waiting to pounce, "This sphere is not only angel, but it is being held together by demon magic. Our own kind, working with the angels, how can this be?"
"You are sure?" the demon asked, then answered for himself, "Of course you are sure. Can you undo it?"
"Not quickly." Yethzer said, but he began the complex figures anyway, using both hands to transcribe them, glowing, into the chill air.
Minutes passed and the other demon watched as the figures amassed. He glanced aside at one point and gasped. He looked at Yethzer, usure whether to interrupt him, but Yethzer had already paused.
"Hand me my mace, I can finish this one handed." Yethzer turned back to the cage, "Ready yourselves for battle."
On the horizon faint specks could be seen, to human eyes they could have been birds, and even demon eyes could not yet tell anything other than their size. But they were coming swiftly, and they were coming for the trapped demons. Yethzer cursed, his troop was not up to this challenge, not so soon after their fight with the angels. Even if he did get them free he would have to retreat. Even he could not take on a full troop of angels alone.
He could see them clearly now. He snarled, there were demons among the angels. Traitors all. The last rune left his fingers and the sphere shattered with a resounding crash. The demons tumbled apart, wings fumbling to gain purchase in the air. Before they had a chance to recover magic engulfed them and scattered them. Yethzer folded his wings and rolled with the harsh blow. He could already see others struggling to stay airborne on strained or even broken wings as a result of the song.
He was tossed backwards again as a demon grabbed a hold of his arms. Yethzer gripped the other demons legs with his talons to stop the demon's cat-like paws from scratching him. They fell tumbling towards the earth, both unwilling to be the one to give in. The other demon was holding his arms to tightly to allow him to swing his mace, so Yethzer didn't struggle. The leathery wings of the other demon twitched in nervous anicipation, but not a single feather on Yethzer's moved any more than the wind blew it. Yethzer, steadily staring the other down, could see that the demon was losing focus, eyes began to dart, lookin for an escape. Yethzer spread his wings slightly, not enough to break their decent, but enough to steady it. He was now on top, but that alone would not save him.
The other began to struggle, releasing its hold on his shoulders to try and get free of Yethzer's mighty talons. Yethzer let go suddenly and swung down with his mace. A wing cracked underneath it and the other demon fell to its death. Yethzer stretched his wings to full extent and winced as the wind caught them. His legs were scraped by the branches of the forest but he managed to pull clear. He ascended slowly, exhausted by the two battles and long flight in between. He was only half way to the battle's level when he saw there was little hope. His forces were already fleeing, but they were being pursued.
Yethzer turned and glided away from the battle, confused and angered by it. He had never seen a demon war for the opposing side before. Rarely had he even fought demons outside of training, and those had always been more personal issues. It must have been a wicked song indeed to make a demon fight for the angels. How had they done it? He would have never thought it possible.
If this was not an illusion he had to tell someone. The demons had to take down the angels before they ruled the three kingdoms. Yethzer flicked his wings, turning his flight to the north. Humans might finally prove useful, once they accepted that the angels were using magic to enslave the minds of others.

Ohh this looks like a lot of shiz is going to happen. Interesting beginning. And we get to wonder, indeed, why are there demons fighting for the opposing side!
Also I like the description you make of the character. I found it very easy to imagine his appearance.
