If you get offended by this. Fine. I don't care. Unwatch me, unfavorite my work. Go right ahead. I won't mind. Just hear me out.I'm not one to judge, so I'm not going to be pointing any fingers. Have any of you guys just stopped and looked at some of the submitted base work? I have. It's pathetic. Really. It is. Do you guys see how much time the left took me? That's sad. That's really, really sad. What about the right, huh?
I'm very upset with people. Can I use the word abuse here or not? I'm not sure. Still, I'm not going to lie. I may have not used this certain base before, but, before my "incredible" and "beautiful" pieces came out this year, I was just like you guys. My work was purely shit.
Shit.
Examples o' shit: [link] [link] [link] [link]
But that's just me, back in the beginning of 2011. You know what I guys did to get better and where I am today (emphasis on right doll)? I practiced. I found detailed tutorials. I experimented with colors, that may look bad now. But trust me, their going to be your friends soon enough. And another thing I do? I ask people. I have the nuts to go up to people and ask for their help.
Now, I know what you guys are going to do now. You're going to comment below on how stupid and how fucking wrong I'm being. Well, like it or not, I'm right in the end. And, I know. You're not going to become an amazing dolling artist in one night. It's going to take some time. Look at me now. It's been a year for me. More than a year, in fact. Look how I've imporved. But don't just take my word for it. Go explore the world, folks. Get involved in groups, make some friends here, ask people for advice every now and then.
I hope I didn't waste your time with my rant. ~m4

Haha, I know. XD Ah, well... I meant more like hitting the refresh button rather than changing up my page. |D I don't change my page up too often either. But I like your new webcam~ I'd roast marshmallows, too. Just sayin'. ;D Well, references are more important. I need to be working on some character references myself, but... with the start of school comes the dreaded homework. D; A lot of people seem to have zits, and mine would go away if I got off my lazy bum and washed my face more often. I've been getting better with that, though! Yup~ I plan on pointing that fact out to people who laugh at other girls for being big. Big is beautiful, darlin'. (; 'Course, with the people of this generation, I could say, "Marilyn Monroe wore a dress size 14!" and I'd get this response: "Who the heck is Marilyn Monroe??" Really? She was a leftie? That's pretty cool. o3o So she was a plus-size leftie and still considered a sex bomb...

Oh...yeah, well, I refresh it like that too. I like my new picture too. Ah, dont worry. There are a ton of people I would roast and make smores XD Refs are the most importan thing when it comes to characters! Eww..school. I see your dilemma. Has school started for you yet? Well, we're teenagers. We tend to get zits and blemishes every now and then. Big is so beautiful~~ You should stitch that onto a pillow. It's such an amazing thing to say. It proves that not all beautiful women aren't skinny mini's. She was so a leftie. A plus-sized leftie who was a sex-bomb. Another little saying on another pretty pillow c:

Dude... I wouldn't do that 'cause I, like, don't like anyone. D: I just love marshmallows, bro. <3 Yes! Pff, I need to get started on them. Seriously. XD And yeah, school's started back up. Today was my third day. I'm in 3 honors classes, but thankfully, my work load has been pretty light so far. Just wait until I get farther in the year. ;A; But I am taking some fun classes, like Accounting, Computer Applications, and Photography~ Yes, but if you're me, you get them all the frikkin' time, and then you do basically nothing to make them go away and hate your lazy self for it. I have so many sayings to stitch into pillows now. XD I'm going to have a lot of decorative pillows in my house when I'm older. I should start keeping a list! I actually don't think skinny minis are beautiful, especially if they wear makeup and short shorts. D: I think that's the definition of ugly. Bigger girls are adorable to me, and some of them can work it no matter what size they are. <3 A lot of skinny minis just seem so superficial to me. D; Makeup, nice hair, slutty clothes... Dude. I'm thin, and I don't wear makeup, and I cover EVERYTHING with skinny jeans and a 2X Eeyore sweater.

What? You don't like people?? Marshmallows. God, I want to hug the person that created those things. Like, seriously. School starts this monday for me. I'm actually a little excited. I'm most likely getting into home ec, art 2d and 3d, and french II (those are the classes I really care for the most, not so much the more importat one..like math and bio
). You should keep a list and I can help you add onto it. I'm not a sew and thread person so you can make pillows with my sayings on them. Skinny minis are ugly. They put on too muh makeup and their clothes are too small for them to wear. They look lik the girls from Jersey Shore. Ugly..
I like skinny jeans. But not the ones that are too tihgt and you can't breathe in. Not like mine. I can breathe an actually do stuff in mine. They're colorful 8D

Naw, people are fine. XD I like them mostly because of Byakuran from KHR! -> Yes. XD Next time you say, "You should stitch that into a pillow," I will add it to the list. Ah, French. A lot of people take French for some reason, even though Spanish would make you more marketable, especially if you live down south, like in Florida. I never really got why people would rather take French. America is being overrun by Hispanic people. |D French would make you marketable if you wanted to live in Canada! But to each her own~ I didn't like home ec when I took it in 8th grade... probably because I can't cook worth CRAP. =3= I think skinny people can be attractive IF they do it right. I like the ones that you can breathe in, too. XD My mom always says they look too tight, but I tell her that they feel fine~

Byakuran is sexxeh 8D Yes, add them to the list. I actually find French a little easier than Spanish..I can't roll my 'Rrrss' very well |D But you do have a point there. I live in a very populated hispanic area. Why have they dominated like rabbits?? DX Although there are parts of te US where they speak french so that'll be a plus if I ever go there I took home ec in sixth and seventh grade. We didn't cook much. But they do a lot at my high school. Skinny jeans are attractive if they don't have holes and are purposely bleached. Otherwise, they're all good C:

Well, Florida is going to have a BUNCH of Spanish speakers because it was originally a Spanish colony, so you know... Yeah, that's true. I know that there's a lot of French people in Lousiana. I would've taken it in 6th and 7th grade also if I had switched schools earlier. Thank God I waiting until 8th. OTL Yes, yes, they are~ I really like them. :3 I need to get me some colorful ones! Everyone I know speaks fluent English. Oh, yeah. Forgot about the Spanish influence for a sec Thank you, Christopher Columbus C: Ah, Lousiana. That sounds like my kind of place. The music, the food, the parties, the food, the people, the food..
Ah, switching schools. I understand

Yeah, that seems like a good idea. You could probably take it in college, since most college curriculums require a foreign language, anyway. I plan on taking German for the sake of doing voice-overs for some of my characters. XD I would take Japanese, but I don't have any characters who speak fluent Japanese (unless they're for an anime, but you know... =3= that doesn't count), but I have twins who speak fluent German and nothing BUT German. They don't know English... Yeah, actually, I think the Spanish-speaking people in Florida come from the fact that it was a Spanish colony at one point in time. New Mexico, Arizona, and southern California were also Spanish colonies, so you'll probably find plenty of Hispanics around there, too. I've never had Louisana food, and I'm not sure I want to after hearing what a comedian said about it. XD "Lousiana food is good as long as you don't know what's in it... 'This is delicious! What's it made out of?' 'Never mind that. Just keep chewing...'" Eh, it wasn't really so bad. It actually would've sucked if I DIDN'T switch schools. I didn't have any friends I was leaving behind so the transition was really easy, and I went from private to public school, and I thrive in bigger classroom environments. XD Made lots of new friends, got more of a challenging curriculum, etc., etc. I might check that place out when I need new jeans. Problem is... I'm not sure colorful jeans would match any of my tops. XD Oh well~ I've always wanted a character with pale pink skinny jeans. NO IDEA why...

(Pfft..sory about that last message being crossed out ) Honestly, if I ever do go to college, I'm not sure what I'd major in. When I was little I wanted to be a cook, but when I was getting older I liked drawing and thought a cartoonist as an option. But I'm not sure honestly, but I'll definetly take Spanis as a course. Who knows where I'll end up in, like, eight years?? XD St. Augustine, bby~~ The eldest city in north america, which settled Spainards long ago. I know these things too 8D I've been there c: It's sooo purtty~ Wow. Private school to public. That must of been hard on you. I've been a public school kid all my life. But I did change schools in Elementary so I see one of your past dilemma's. I had to make ll new friends and learn the different things at a completely diferent school. I was yelled at by the lunch lady on the first day because I handed her my envelope of lunch money and was supposed to have it ready.. Check that place out~ They have nice thingsss.

Aha, no it's okay. XD I did that with one of my messages once, and I still knew what you meant.
My mom told me that she wanted to be an art major, but she quit because the teachers were biased and the field was too competitive. I think I lost some of my respect for her after learning that... I'm chasin' my dreams all the way, man. <3 And I already have a back-up plan, so nothing's gonna stop me! Wow... St. Augustine is the oldest city in North America? That's pretty awesome, I think. You learn something new every day~ Maybe I'll have to take a trip down to Louisana one day. I think it would be fun to visit during Mardi Gra, even though the crowds would be ridiculous. :'D Nah, it wasn't that bad. I actually did pretty well with the transition. Like I said, I had no friends at my old school and pretty much nothing else that tied me to that place other than the fact that it had been the school I had gone to since kindergarten. I was glad for the change, really. (: Haha, I never eat lunch at public schools because the lunch line is too complicated for me. XD People say, "It's easy to figure out! You just get in line, pick out what you want, and then they charge it to your school account." And I'm like, "That's okay. I'll just continue to eat my packed lunch. :I" I totally forget which store we were talking about. JC Penny's? Kohl's? Can't remember. ;A;

Wow. That's horrible. Teacher's shouldn't be biased or give their personal opinion on things in front of students. Well, that's what I think. Why would you lose respect for your mom? I think she did the right thing. Chase your dreams, bro. Imma gonna jog..o3o Awesome? No. Awesomeness! I want to go see Mardi Gra so badly its not even funny. It's on my bucket list. Well, change is good, my friend. I stopped eating lunch at school because 1) the food they serve is full out horrible and 2) the stuff they serve is over priced. So I just bring things from home and my mom gives me money for soda sometimes c: JC Penny's..

I've recently learned that my Photography teacher does it ALL THE TIME. It drives me insane, but what can you do? Well, the main reason I lost my respect for her is because she seemed to really enjoy art. It was something that helped her relax, and she was DARN good at it, too. Like, 1000 times better than myself. ;A; I think she should've picked a path and stayed that way because... I mean... she gave up on her dreams, which is something that I could never ever do, ever. Take me with you?
Imagine how much fun we'd have... flashing all the guys... or girls~ LOL The stuff really is horrible. XD I ate some of my friend's lunch, and I was like, "The heck is this?! That's not food!" I told this kid in my History class that I've never eaten lunch at school before and I'm a junior, and he looked at me like I had three heads or something! |D Oh, okay... Thanks. :3 I'll have to look there.

If your mother stayed with her passion you'd still have respect for her. But I'm pretty sure you have some respect for right now, am I rght? I'll take you wit meeee. Flashing. Dear God. That's be so..so much fun. That guy in your history class is an idiot. Sorry to say but he is. The food is horrible and I don't blame you for trying to prove your point to others. Yeah, we have this "best of" section of the class in which she picks the best photos from that week's assignment, and sometimes, there are mediocre pictures in the "best of" and super good ones in the ones that she makes us critique. D; She makes us do these critiques, and she points out pictures that SHOULD have been in the best of, but they only have, like, one little flaw that only she notices. Once, I took a picture of a black wooden button leaning up against a wall, and she said it was too complicated and too creative for that project! Too creative! She took off points because of how creative it was. I'm serious. And there was another girl who took WAY more creative pictures than mine and got both of her pictures in the best of... Seriously?! All my picture was was a black button against a wall. What's creative or complicated about that? =3=
Well, yes, I still respect her as a person, and she's one of the world's greatest moms, and I love her to death. I just wish she would've stayed on the path she had originally chosen.
I am making it one of my goals to get as many beads as I can. ;u; I'm such a whore. OTL
Aha, yeah... My friend had some leftover sandwich that I wanted, so I took a big bite and then had to gulp down my Vitamin Water immediately afterward 'cause it was so nasty. XP But then... it was toward the end of lunch, so the sandwich had gotten cold and soggy. Plus, I have the last lunch hour, so it had been sitting in the cafeteria all day.

Oh thank god....
I constantly see awfully done base work
I was once trying to find somewhere to reference shading a skirt with a base I was using that included the skirt, but when I tried all the links of people who had used it, NOTHING was shaded
ALL ONE COLOR
Its just, depressing that some people can be so careless
They NEVER erase the head lines or pixel lines that they went over, it looks awful
And while I was pixeling a base, I sometimes thought I was the only one shading the skin extra...
π: 0 β©: 1
maris4 In reply to PalePastels [2012-06-24 20:34:31 +0000 UTC]
I hate that feeling too. Its like when your checking out all the used bases and you see that you're the only one that actually put the hard work and effot into it. I question intelligence..
I love shading the skin with an extra color to be honest. I just got into actually and I think it really brings out the features and looks in a character.

The problem is that shading takes time to get the hang of. It took me a while to "master," but hey, I'm still learning myself. Maybe one day they'll learn how to shade properly. I mean, that's what we're here for. To answer new comers questions and give them advice.
I use pink sometimes, mainly for blushing and sad faces.

I'm still not the best base user around, but I'd say that I've improved! (Haters gonna hate xD)
For example, here's my FIRST picture where I used a base: [link]
And here's my latest: [link]
Not the best I know, but I see improvement.
And it's almost been a year since the first picture where I used a base.
So yes: Practise practise practise.
Many people hate base users because they say that they're lazy, not real artists and thieves. Some might be, but there are still some that try to improve.
I actually noticed that I became better at drawing generally. So now I'm trying to get myself a better paint program and a tablet pen, so I can draw on my own
But enough of that:
*ahem*

Yes, people do think we're "lazy" and "not real artists" and "thieves". Not true. We're simply making more art, and imporving our skills to be on top one day. I'm still going to use bases. They are the shizz. No. Matter. What.
