Description
Charcoal, carbon pencil and white pastel on Canson grey paper.Was a bit of an experiment in technique so any suggestions/critique is welcome. Cheers

The face is absolutely fantastic! Although I love the pose, the crisp, realistic edges of the face and coat, the hands seem to lose that crispness. They are more fuzzy around the nails and the ring as well. At first I thought that was to show them out of focus (and if that's case, nevermind me ^_^), but it was just something that stood out. Also the transition from light to dark is much more drastic in the hands on the right side. I can't see the reference, so it may just be the way the light was hitting in the photo.
Anyway, that's just me being knit-picky. ^_^ It is, overall, a fantastic piece. I hope my comment helps a little.

Hey thanks this is good! Agree completly about the hands, think I spent over an hour per finger and then maybe I just lost a bit of interest... Regarding the light I think that is how is was in the reference, but I'm trying hard to learn so I appreciate it - feel free to tear it to shreds. Cheers!

ha thanks! Yes white pastel and black carbon pencil. Normally I might use the point of an eraser to pick out highlights but in this case I just used the white pastel for that. cheers!

The experiment pretty much paid off then. When I looked at the larger version it looked like a sculpture at first, a very 3D look to it. Great work.
