Description Fragmentarium [link]

Finally got round to installing Fragmentarium; what an amazingly fast renderer - this took about one minute to render!!
Mind you, it took about 4 hours of fiddling and tweaking to get this image set up! Still early days I guess....

Fullview please....

Not familiar with the program. I assume it is some sort of 3D visualisation for fractals? Will have to "Google". Beautiful work.

Cheers Jim, glad you like my work!
It's a 3D fractal raytracing program called 'Fragmentarium' which you can D/L from: [link]
You might also have a look at the new Fragmentarium group here on dA:

Thanks for the link. I've gone and installed and downloaded - never touched this sort of software, but all those amazing 3D fractal images out there have certainly piqued my curiosity.

I'd also thoroughly recommend checking out 'Mandelbulb 3D': probably the most popular 3D fractal rendering software Jim - get it at: [link]
And go to for more info on the program.

Mandelbulb is one I've heard of in passing. Would you suggest one over the other? I guess they would both have their strong and weak.

Ooops! Wrong link Jim!! For the full version of M3D go to: [link] The link I gave is just for the latest executable update.
Frag has the edge over M3D in terms of image quality, but M3D is definitely much more flexible when it comes to choice of fractal formula combos.

Thanks Sergio! I must admit to finding the navigation a bit frustrating - keep losing the image just when I find a good PoV - and there's no 'undo' or 'reset'!!!

yes I agree with you... sometimes wen I find something cool I press (view to main)... this way i dont lose the all thing ...

welcome

Oops - sorry Sergio, but I was referring to 'Fragmentarium' - which this
piece was created with; not 'Mandelbulb3D' - which I'm absolutely OK with.

... yes in Fragmentarium it's not easy ... in Mandelbulb3D you are A MASTER

Looks cool Mark, Downloaded the prog and will give it a go. Did you generate the sky in the software or is it a map bud??

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkJayBee In reply to mac2010 [2013-01-26 14:10:29 +0000 UTC]

Thanks muchly bud! Go for it John, but be prepared to fiddle quite a bit!
Tha sky was added in PS post-render; there is a way to add a BG image in the
software, but it involves coding! So, something for the future I supect.

No problem bud, Yeah, I dont like the sound of the coding much, Id probably use ps like yourself!!! Cheers!!!

Superb work as usual and...very interesting indeed! . Will leave everything I'm doing now to check on Fragmentarium. Thought it was MB3D coupled to an external renderer. How can be possible that it took about a minute to render, while having such great creative features?!?!?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MarkJayBee In reply to SergioKodemo [2013-01-26 14:07:07 +0000 UTC]

Thanks Sergio! Do that thing! Frag renders on the GPU, rather
than using your CPU so - depending on your graphics card - is incredibly fast!
But, be warned; setting up scenes can take quite a while!

SergioKodemo In reply to MarkJayBee [2013-01-27 02:52:22 +0000 UTC]

Very welcome! Checked on the site and I'm quite enthusiastic about it. I'm wondering if it's easy to get it running or is a bit geeky.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be getting a new computer relatively soon, and will focus on its GPU. The trend goes towards them (even for non-graphics use), as CPU's almost reached their technical limits.

Thanks Laxmi! Took a little bit of time to adjust to the control setup;
navigation, colour/lighting, render etc, but I think I'm getting more of a
feel for it now....

Oh I guess that's not as straightforward as M3D, for sure. I tried once, but only a couple of hours, and I found it a bit too technical for me. Anyway so far I'm into the 3Dprint thing, and as this area has got so many ramifications (fractal-like ) I have no idea when I'll take the time to dig into Frag...
