For some reason I have the image of a bishop or someone behind that guy let out a loud fart while prayer was being held and the priest is trying desperately to hold in a laugh...

These characters of yours are just so freakin' incredible. The caricature-istic aesthetic to them is very alluring and lively. You really capture the essence of personality and character in their shape. Each one is so unique and varied from one another, and beautifully crafted. THe painting job on these is just outstanding o.o SO many colors in your fleshtones to not only make them realistic, but even beyond to the point of exaggeration which I love. It really brings out the character. LOVE the priest as my personal favorite >w< What a nose!

Thanks very much for your detailed observation.
I do really like to push the design and color as much as I can on these pieces. Lots-o-fun.

so do you have to make drawings from a lot of angles before you start sculpting heads like this? very nice btw

MarkNewman In reply to ECisME [2007-02-03 03:37:59 +0000 UTC]

No. I prefer to design the piece in 3D. If it's my own project or design I prefer to do it all in clay, (3D.) Sometimes with an initial quick sketch.
This way you can use your light source as a design tool. Move the light around see how the shadowing helps the overall design. Your work becomes much more fresh and spontaneous in my opinion.

These just LOOK like so much fun to work on. the kind where you find yourself smiling as your working on them. Bravo

They were a blast to work on. I did a quick sketch of the characters and startd sculpting. No approvals, no art directors, no deadlines. I really like working on my own thing when I find the time.
