Pencil on A4 Smooth Bristol. W.I.P for this can be found in my wip folder. Image cropped from a pic from google images, i lost the link to the reference used.Skin tutorial ..

Fantastic! The shading is subtle and the wrinkles have a great level of definition to them. It's so boring sometimes to see people keep using supermodels for their facial portraits; the older folk have a lot more wear on them, and their scars tell stories that most of us can't even imagine. Only personal issue is the contrast, which could be a tick higher, but that's just niggling. Bravo, I'd love to see the finished thing.

Thank you. Depth of tone has been a battle using Bristol and has taken time to develop a technique, i tried to get the scanned image as close to the drawing as possible and i resisted the urge to make it darker by manip. If i were to do this one now i would do it slightly different to allow for more contrast. This is where i was at the time and to be honest there is not much difference from the drawing. Glad you like it and thanks for taking the time to comment, i appreciate it

Thanks, i agree. After scanning i tried to get it as close to my drawing as poss and if i added more contrast it would not be true to my original drawing. Learning how to adapt to Bristol Paper has taken time and i still have a way to go, but i gain more info with every piece. Getting a DD was quite a shock

Just try using more of a midtone color so the overall wash of shading is more realistic, because too many highlights takes away from realism. I recommend keeping Bristol paper, I've used it for quite a while and it works the very best for portraits! And congrats on the DD

well-deserved DD Mark - the skin texture and that of the scarf on the head are excellent realism and you've captured the beauty, experience and wisdom of the woman in her eyes -
